Gravitymaster 0 #6 January 20, 2013 Yes, the answer to reducing gun violence is instant mental health checks. We could accomplish this by requiring gun dealers to have a full time psychologist in the gun store to give an instant mental health evaluation. If it saves just one child, it's worth it. wolfriverjoe 1,523 #7 January 20, 2013 What's so astonishing? Cho, Loughner and Holmes all purchased their weapons through FFL dealers and passed the current background checks (Cho shouldn't have, but that's a different issue). And I've heard that Lanza could have passed the checks, but was afraid that his mom was going to have him institutionalized and didn't want to wait the 14 days. So he would have if he had been willing to wait. So all these "lunatics" passed the current checks. I'm sure we will all eventually get used to living in the fascist state the liberals want to create. It will all be worth it if it saves just one child. davjohns 1 #17 January 21, 2013 I was surprised by that answer as well...then I looked at the poll. Makes more sense now. That question was following other questions like, "require criminal record checks". So, in context (and when I looked at the wording closer) the question is most easily read, "Do you want the gun shop to check to see if the person has a criminal record, is adjudicated mentally ill, etc." I'm paraphrasing, but not angling for a particular wording here. But if you look at the poll, it is easily understood that what is being asked is what is already happening. If someone has been adjudicated mentally ill, it should show up in a standard background check for a gun purchase...and the people who took this poll agree with that check. I don't think it says that people want a psychiatrist to certify anyone who wants to buy a firearm as a suitable candidate. There were other interesting results in the poll. For instance, those polled don't think gun restrictions will do any good, but favor them nonetheless. And the percentage of those polled who have a firearm in the house seems awfully low to me...especially given the other answers. Not drawing conclusions...just interesting.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
