airdvr 210 #1 January 3, 2013 For Sandy aid? The entire State of New York's budget is $30 billion. Too many pigs, not enough tits. Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
BigMikeH77 0 #2 January 3, 2013 Yeah, I'm not sure where these huge numbers come from either - or who exactly will be getting all that money. Something tells me that it won't be the people who need it for if it were, the figure would be much smaller. Is the Federal Government expected to pay for all repairs and cleanup and relocation and rebuilding and damages for lost work and private business losses and hangmails and stubbed toes and kleenex and tampons? Arent the people requesting all this money the very same ones who blast government and government spending, and preach community involvement and charity work? QuoteJohn Stone, a resident of New York's Staten Island, owned two homes before the storm. One was destroyed; the other was so severely flooded that it remains unlivable.http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/02/politics/house-sandy-aid-vote/index.html?hpt=hp_inthenews I'm wondering why this guy thinks he should get federal money? Please don't dent the planet. kallend 2,156 #6 January 3, 2013 QuoteWhy should some people be deemed more, or less, morally deserving of federal disaster aid than others? Well, seems to me that someone who can afford 2 homes in NY should to be able to afford his own insurance too, rather than sponging off the taxpayers. I'd put him in the same class as the moochers like Mary Brown who don't buy health insurance and then stiff others when they get sick.... In a declared disaster area, I do believe that the insurance companies aren't liable. I'll look into this.
cvfd1399 0 #9 January 4, 2013 I was shocked at the 60 BILLION request also. If my house burns down or gets flooded I can't ask the govmt to rebuild. He'll I'm FORCED by FEMA to buy flood insurance even tho my house is two feet above flood level. I tried to get an exclusion, even got it surveyed, and it was verified not to flood in a 100 year flood but they won't do it. If any of that money is for people who were not responsible and did not have insurance then ooh well for them I say. It's like not buying health insurance then running to the hospital when your sick and having someone else who paid their premiums all year take up your slack. The government was warned many times about the severity a storm will have on NY. How much is going to them, vs bailing out insurance companies not solvent enough to cover their polices, etc. I know first hand the corruption when disaster money gets handed out its sickening. During Katrina thousand of trailers were bought and never delivers to residents, they just sat in fields in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi until they rotted. They paid private companies huge amounts to move the trailers around like chess pieces. Recently they spent 185,000 on ports potties and ice that never got used, the ice was returned to the vendor who just dumped them out, and charged us to take them back also. You will eventually hear that about half of that money whatever amount they get was fraud or abuse. That storm was in OCTOBER, they are calling it emergency relief aid, who hasn't made other arraignments yet to handle their business? It makes me sick the individuals, businesses, and local governments who rely on Feds. Typed on ipad, not going back over to check for grammar, deal with it
billvon 3,121 #10 January 4, 2013 > If my house burns down or gets flooded I can't ask the govmt to rebuild. Right. But if the road outside your home is destroyed by a flood you can ask the government to rebuild it. Most of that money is going to infrastructure repairs. Needless to say some will be effectively wasted in the ways you mentioned, which is a problem.

This. Also I heard on talk radio on the way home from work the requested ammount to do infrastructure repairs was 27billion, but the numbers they are about to give are 60. Yep. From the bill it looks like there is $17 billion in there for that, specifically for " community development block grants, much of which would help homeowners repair or replace their homes.”
