We need to stop this nonsense. Why is it like this now? Because we haven't had a budget in years. Dems can cry that Reps are the party of no, but your hero Harry Reid has decided he would rather see these showdowns than act as a leader and submit a budget for all to see.

yay Congress - another delay with the typical, expected, same old crap:

the spending in the bill is more than income

>If you buy the Dem's talking points.

Or Boehner's:

==================
John Boehner Told Harry Reid 'Go F--- Yourself' Outside the Oval Office
By Dashiell Bennett | The Atlantic Wire – 7 hrs ago

The fiscal austerity crisis has been temporarily averted, but given the apparent animosity between the current leaders of Congress its a miracle that any deal was made at all. Politico has a rather lengthy breakdown of the last week or so of negotiations that led to last night's budget bill and it leads off with an anecdote illustrating the current state of American politics. As they arrived for a much-hyped meeting with the President last Friday afternoon, Speaker of the House John Boehner spotted House Majority Leader Harry Reid approaching just steps from the Oval Office. According to "multiple sources," Boehner pointed his finger at Reid and without any other fanfare said, "Go f*** yourself." When Reid asked him what he was talking about, Boehner simply repeated his curse and moved on.

not surprising -

what is your personal opinion of Reid then? (I have no issue with your opinion on Boehner, but just for balance...)

the fiscal cliff delay included:

- tax increase on the wealthy
- even more spending attached than the increase brings in

so exactly who is compromising and who is being stubborn to the detriment of the world economy?

Incredibly lazy. Both sides have been putting this off for literally years - and now they kick the can another two months down the road, which just makes the problem that much worse. We got a tiny tax increase which will do almost nothing to solve the debt problem, and we didn't even make a dent in spending.

I can't imagine anyone in the private sector being able to keep their jobs after doing what Reid (and Boehner) did. Or more to the point what they didn't do.

I also can't imagine a business leader who says "go fuck yourself" a few times to another leader in the CEO's office keeping his job - especially when the CEO has told them in no uncertain terms to do their jobs and cooperate.

1 - I agree with your overall assessment. Thanks. though you're really pulling your punches here - I'd be a bit stronger than just calling Reid "lazy" - much like Boehner, I'd call both of them criminally negligent and destructive - at a minimum

2 - Most CEO's I've been around would pretty much make a regular practice of telling each other off..... but not in such a public way - at least at first. I'm sure there's been more than a few colorful name calling sessions from them both for quite a long time. (It's more refreshing than the PR releases that just infers the other guys is Lucifer incarnate - and the inevitable personal outrage and indignant shock (feigned) in response - just for the media to consume)

I don't think either one of them is intentionally destructive. Short-sighted and intellectually lazy, definitely. Unwilling to buck popular opinion for the long term good of the country, almost certainly. But that's a problem you're going to have in any democracy - the constant demand that politicians implement the "will of the people" and the people want tax cuts and more spending.

Since you refuse to put this in context as to what started off Boehner's bad attidude here is what supposedly transpired:

It was only a few days before the nation would go over the fiscal cliff, no bipartisan agreement was in sight, and Reid had just publicly accused Boehner of running a “dictatorship” in the House and caring more about holding onto his gavel than striking a deal.

“Go fuck yourself,” Boehner sniped as he pointed his finger at Reid, according to multiple sources present.

Reid, a bit startled, replied: “What are you talking about?”

Boehner repeated: “Go fuck yourself.”

While you just like to point out that Boehner just lost it and started cursing out liberals for the hell of it, this has been going on for quite a while...and from the looks of it, reid got on his damn nerves....cant blame the man.

Not so fast...let's not forget the mid-terms in 2010. And I don't believe the majority of people want tax cuts and increased spending. Bammer ran on a promise of a balanced approach. That's hardly what transpired.

Sure they do. You even see it here. Everyone wants someone else's taxes raised and someone else's spending cut. Polls show consistently that most Americans want higher taxes on the rich and "lower government spending."

But even the staunch conservatives on here want THEIR programs funded better. Veteran's benefits, soldier's pay, whatever. And almost everyone on here wants THEIR taxes lower; again, examples abound of people complaining that their taxes are too high.

Multiply that by 300 million and you have a constant demand for lower taxes and higher spending.

Not me. I think taxes are too low, and the very rich have bought themselves too many loopholes. 15% rate on income for millionaire hedge fund managers is just absurd, when regular middle class working stiffs are paying a higher rate.

What we have is government of the people, by the lackeys of the rich, for the rich.

I find it hilarious that you want the Government to be more efficient yet right after that line, you end up blaming one side.

Maybe
Just maybe we are in this situation because we keep putting the blame on one another.

Why are the rich so evil to you? How about a flat tax, everyone pays 15%(or whatever is needed) from gang bangers to Bill Gates to grandma? Everyone pays their fair share and we can stop all this bullshit about who pays what.

"Fair" is a meaningless concept in the context of taxes.

Why do you think the rich should be able to BUY themselves favorable tax treatment that middle class people can't get?

Why do you hate the middle class?

From a purely business/industry perspective, if we base on historical studies, a flat tax has proven to be pretty damaging in the past bc of factors such as externality and industries which normal capitalism is inapplicable.

There are some writings by Milton Friedman that explains this in-depth

Everyone pays the same, if that industry can't make it then something will take its place. Govmt needs to get out of helping theses industries for decades, if it won't float on its on, and the people are not willing to pay the increased price let it sink.

Things we really need will make it, because its a need not a luxury. If it rights the ship I'm down for paying 12 dollars a gallon for milk.

Do you really want to get into a discussion where you are trying to defend Reid's actions over the last 4 years? The Senate hasn't passed a budget resolution in almost 4 years. Who is the majority leader in the Senate?

Everyone here knows of your disdain for the Paul Ryan budget but at least he submitted something for approval.
