The majority of guns - used in drug gang related shootings in Canada and Mexico - were smuggled in from the USA.
When a small-time dope dealer - from Campbell River - brags to me that he can get any rocket-launcher or machine-gun ...
Then that "small time dope dealer" is either full of shit, or the guns aren't coming from legally bought sources in the US. There's no legal source in the US for rocket launchers or machine guns. (there is a way to get full auto in the US, but those guns are very highly regulated and very, very valuable)
I don't know about Canada, but the "majority of the guns used in drug gang related shootings in Mexico" don't come from the US, they come from the Mexican army.

QuoteWhy the afro-american descendants of (centuries ago) slaves have not moved up into the middle class is a mystery that has baffled Americans since JFK and MLK???????
Many have, and are. Why is it taking many of them longer? In part, it's because, well, it's fairly easy to pick them out in a crowd.
No, that's not the only factor, but if you think MLK and his cohorts eliminated that as a major factor, you're kidding yourself. No card-playing here; just social analysis.

How does the UK manage to have a much lower homicide rate than the USA?
I also think that a lot of it does have to do with culture.
I agree, its not JUST the fact that you have substantially lower amounts of guns.
But its PARTLY due to that.
I think it will be a lot easier to take the number of guns down, than it will be to change the underlying culture of the USA as a first step in reducing homicides to a level closer resembling the UK.

So if local bans don't work then why would a national ban? It wouldn't because criminals will always traffic them into a country and the only people who wouldn't have them would be the law abiding.
You guys can argue until you are blue in the face and it still boils down to this^^^

How about the UN troops disarming all of the civilians in the USA to ensure that ALL the guns have been collected? Whatdaya think?

I think that would be known as the "Tea Party Wet Dream Scenario."
Home-grown "militia" units square off against the evil empire known as the UN. The UN, of course, would be decimated in any attempt to perform any action on US soil (true) without the full support of US troops, so . . . the "militias" win. Walter Mitty finally gets to play out his fantasy AND win? Yeah, wet dream.
Delusional to believe it could even be contemplated let alone happen. Hence the name.
Make no mistake, the "militias" actually would win. I'm not being facetious there. They really would. It would simply not happen. It would be about as likely as New Zealand invading Texas.

The US is obsessed with defending themselves and as such come across as scared and insecure.
It's been ages since I've been in SC - whats happened to JR - not a single post in this gun thread from him?

I can't figure out if pops is for or against gun control - but then most people would take one look at him and runaway

Americans are better shots. We don't miss as much as Brits.
It's the teeth. They play merry hell with trying to line up the sights.

What's delusional is to think the UN is not capable of attempting to impose a world wide ban on guns.
