ShcShc11 0 #1 December 26, 2012 Its weird that we keep calling the "fiscal cliff". Its not really a cliff. Last year's debt ceiling was a real cliff due to legal implications/contractual obligations. Most spending cuts and tax increase would only affect the economy 6-8 months from now. And if something can be done around January and February, it could be applied retro-actively with minimal economic collateral damages. The stock market might however be affected because investors' expectation is that it would be solved on "December 31st". What's going to happen: -No deal over the "fiscal cliff". -The house and congress gets a deal done in January and both Democrats and Republicans can claim they "cut taxes". -Nothing else much happens until the next debt ceiling debate Cheers! kallend 2,146 #2 December 26, 2012 As measured by Gallup. A majority of survey respondents, 54%, said they approve of the way that Obama has handled the negotiations, and 45% said they approve of Democratic leaders in Congress. Just 26% said they approve of Boehner and the Republican congressional leadership.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. regulator 0 #3 December 26, 2012 At what point in the OP's post did he mention anything about partisan approval ratings? Seemed like he just mentioned that IF we go over the supposed 'cliff' that it might not be a disastrous as the media has portrayed it to be. Nothing in there defacing your precious. This is not a vote of confidence in the Speaker, but an observation that the CIC has to take off his shoes to count over ten.
funjumper101 15 #5 December 26, 2012 You might want to brush up on the facts about the current POTUS. Describing a Harvard trained lawyer, who was a professor of constitutional law, as being a person who "has to take off his shoes to count over ten" bespeaks a level of igorance unmatched for at least ten minutes in this forum. The part that the right wing conservatards don't get is that, thanks to years of education on matters governmental, Obama plays long ball for keeps. He does not dick around much with short term trends and popular "opinions" of the conservatard press. Quite the opposite. He has and maintains focus on long term goals, and works to achieve them. The fact that rescumlicans grossly abused the Senate Rules on the filibuster and still could not stop some progress shows just how fucked up the rescumlicans have become. If it wasn't for the corporate owned media being 100% on the rescumlican side, the average citizen would realize just how badly they have been fucked over by the extremely wealthy, aka, the rescumlicans. This long ball methodology is ever so challenging for the RWC pinheads as these concepts are far beyond what their pitiful little intellects can handle. lawrocket 3 #8 December 27, 2012 The President doesn't need to take his shoes off before he counts to ten. He just won't do it without a teleprompter. My wife is hotter than your wife.

The legislation needs to originate in the House (op. cit.). Boehner carries the can on this.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
