ScottishJohn 25 #2 December 21, 2012 This is one of the comments from the article. Quoteshtakett wrote in #18 Those are the pictures of the city of Novosibirsk, in Western Siberia, where I live. And yes the temperature is -40 in the city, and it may drop to -50 outside - in the villages. But it is not really abnormal. As far as I can remember - every winter we have temperatures of up to -40 for two-three-four weeks - almost every year. So, RT is definitely misleading you guys here. Also RT is not telling you that those who have died of cold were homeless bums, alcoholics and drunks, druggies, and people with chronic heart disease. The lowest temperature I have ever seen here in Novosibirsk was -53 in 2002. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you think my attitude stinks you should smell my fingers
CanuckInUSA 0 #3 December 21, 2012 It may not be as cold as it can get, but it is pretty cold right now in Western Canada. Presently it is -18C and tonight it will dip into the -20s with a fresh blanket of snow to go along with all the other snow that has fallen since the middle of October. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

A balmy -40, and the only victims are the disenfranchised, so it is ok. What kind of monster thinks this way? What, for the love of god, is your point? People freezing to death, in the US, Europe, Russia, and you think it is cute? You promulgate the notion that the diversion of resources from the vulnerable to a bunch of fat cat, plutocrat, cronies is a good thing? Just think what if the one million dollars given to A123 on the day it declared bankruptcy, had been diverted to blankets and warming fluids. How many lives could have been saved? On the other hand what was the benefit of that last one million handed over to a few millionaires? Where are your priorities?

lawrocket 3 #12 December 24, 2012 QuoteBut the temperature there does sometimes rise above freezing in the summer, and the new research raises the possibility that it might begin to happen more often, potentially weakening the ice sheet through surface melting. The ice sheet is already under attack at the edges by warmer ocean water, and scientists are on alert for any new threat. Anybody with a basic understanding of meteorology and climate science can destroy the statement in red. i.e., Antarctica is a desert BECAUSE it's so cold there that water vapor is precipitated out before it arrives in the core. The way to add ice to Antarctica is to warm it up a bit. Anybody who looks at the ice sheet record can destroy the conclusion in blue. Antarctica also presents its own challenges. Part of the big issue is the lack of data there. Understandably, it’s difficult to have measurements there at all, much less measurements over 100 years or so. Antarctica’s area is about 50% greater than Canada’s. Imagine having fewer than 20 active temperature gauges for all of Canada with 7 of them on Nova Scotia. It’d be kinda rough saying “we have a good idea of what’s going on in Antarctica.” Yes, there’s an “idea.” But pretty rough seeing as how they don’t have any real raw data prior to the 1950’s. And yes, if Nova Scotia has a couple of warm years, we’ll have 7 of 20 temperature gauges showing an increase in temperature, which will drive up the total statistical warmth. Sure, those gauges in Yellowknife and Whitehorse and Calgary and Thunder Bay and show some cold trends, but those 7 on Nova Scotia show way warm, dude, and steady everywhere else. (Even this is off – all but one or two of the weather stations on Antarctica are on the coast. It’s like having a weather station in Denver to give an idea of red-state climate). My wife is hotter than your wife.
