lawrocket 3 #1 December 7, 2012 Mitch McConnell proposed something similar a while back - let the President deal with the debt ceiling. It turns out that the President LOVES the idea, and the Treasury Secretary went to Congress suggesting that the President should be given the authority to raise the debt ceiling unless Congress vetoes the President with a supermajority in both houses of Congress. So Mitch McConnell is now filibustering his own stupid idea. But it also shows where the power of the presidency and has come. wmw999 2,602 #3 December 7, 2012 I'm not in favor of it, either, at least right now. I haven't heard a convincing argument, other than the "it makes it easier" type of argument. And, well, I'm not sure we want to make that easier. Some things should be a major pain in the ass. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. Southern_Man 0 #4 December 7, 2012 Well, I'm not in favor of the idea either, but criticizing the president for something McConnell proposed and insisted should come to a vote is a bit strange. McConnell was playing a game and they called his bluff."What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

A U.S bankruptcy trigger could theoretically cause hyperinflation depending on HOW the bylaws and the contracts were written. Going over fiscal cliff is nothing compared to the previous debt ceiling debacle. Cheers! Shc
