President Wants to Take Control of Debt Ceiling

Recommended Posts

Mitch McConnell proposed something similar a while back - let the President deal with the debt ceiling. It turns out that the President LOVES the idea, and the Treasury Secretary went to Congress suggesting that the President should be given the authority to raise the debt ceiling unless Congress vetoes the President with a supermajority in both houses of Congress.

So Mitch McConnell is now filibustering his own stupid idea.

But it also shows where the power of the presidency and has come. Our Constitutional Scholar is proposing a system wherein the Congress vetoes the President. :S

I'm not in favor of it, either, at least right now. I haven't heard a convincing argument, other than the "it makes it easier" type of argument. And, well, I'm not sure we want to make that easier.

Some things should be a major pain in the ass.

So once again they are all playing stupid games instead of getting down to work.

The idea that the U.S was one day away from bankruptcy due to a self-inflicted wound is far scarier.

A U.S bankruptcy trigger could theoretically cause hyperinflation depending on HOW the bylaws and the contracts were written.

Going over fiscal cliff is nothing compared to the previous debt ceiling debacle.

Its funny but that was exactly the reason why a lot of people opposed the Marshal Plans back in 1947.

"Why spend money to the EU we don't have????"
