billvon 3,132 #1 December 4, 2012 In 2011, Roger Ailes, the chairman of FOX News and one of the de facto heads of the Republican party, wanted to get more involved in presidential politics. His plan? Take a national hero, a good family man, and turn him into the next President. FOX News would bankroll his candidacy. That person was David Petraeus. ============ Fox News chief’s failed attempt to enlist Petraeus as presidential candidate Washington Post Bob Woodward Roger Ailes, the longtime Republican media guru, founder of Fox News and its current chairman, had some advice last year for then-Gen. David H. Petraeus. . . . Petraeus should resign from the military and run for president, Ailes suggested. . . . . McFarland also said that Ailes — who had a decades-long career as a Republican political consultant, advising Richard M. Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush — might resign as head of Fox to run a Petraeus presidential campaign. At one point, McFarland and Petraeus spoke about the possibility that Rupert Murdoch, the head of News Corp., which owns Fox News, would “bankroll” the campaign. . . . . At one point, McFarland declared that “everybody at Fox loves you,” adding that Ailes had directed her to ask Petraeus whether “there [is] anything Fox is doing, right or wrong, that you want to tell us to do differently?” Petraeus didn’t hesitate. “The editorial policy of Fox had shifted,” he said. “It was almost as if, because they’re going after Obama, they had to go after Obama’s war as well.” He said he had discussed this with Bret Baier, a key Fox anchor. “Papers and news outlets have editorial policies,” Petraeus said. “They know sort of how their bosses feel about things . . . and it causes a certain shading,” Petraeus continued. . . . [Petraeus turned down their proposal] : “It’s never going to happen,” Petraeus said. “You know it’s never going to happen. It really isn’t. “My wife would divorce me,” he added. “And I love my wife. . . . We have a beautiful house.” Both Petraeus and McFarland laughed. “With his-and-hers bathrooms, believe it or not. I just want to live in it. I’ve never spent a night in it.” ======================= http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/fox-news-chiefs-failed-attempt-to-enlist-petraeus-as-presidential-candidate/2012/12/03/15fdcea8-3d77-11e2-a2d9-822f58ac9fd5_story.html

lawrocket 3 #3 December 4, 2012 That’s the thing about Petraeus – he was as media savvy and charming as they come. He has long been lauded as a masterful general by an adoring press. Not because of his history of success in Iraq but because of his history of keeping the press close. Hence, they were a conduit of the image to be sent. Is it any surprise that Fox News fawned over him when everybody else did, too? My wife is hotter than your wife.

Yes, if Republican it would no doubt have been with another man, or he'd have claimed he was out hiking.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. However, that is the main reason I stopped being a Republican several years ago.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant.
