bringing knives in a gunfight ??

Recommended Posts

apparently it works [:/]
there has been gunfire reported in the US embassy in Israel, where some whacko injured a guard, he was reportedly armed with a knife and an axe.
The guards shot at him, but was arrested uninjured.

These guys could have great careers as police officers.

:D

:S

LOL. Only in the US it is better to have someone arrested injured rather than uninjured.

In other countries we would consider these guards as pros.

If they arrested him uninjured having not fired their weapons in an embassy, missing him, and having their rounds go off to who knows where then I'd agree with you.

Maby they just fired a warning shot? On the other hand, considering the fact that the guards are US marines, they most likely arent trained to give warning shots.

firing wildly is not a sign of professionalism. You do understand that those bullets keep traveling, yes? It was only a few months ago that two New York City cops injured 8 bystanders in their missed shots at a gunman.

During my military service I was assigned to guard a military warehouse for a brief period of time. We were trained to fire warning shots to the ground before aiming directly to the threat.

We were explicitly told to fire warning shots to the ground so they later on could be dug up from the ground to be used as an evidence towards having gone through all other reasonable means of action before opening fire towards the threat.

Therefore, having missed the threat necessarily mean the person failed. I might very well be on the contrary.

IMO this protocol seems smart.

Firing a warning shot in a public setting such as this strikes me as a pretty bad idea. I wasn't there though and the article doesn't really set the scene very completely, so who knows. If a guy comes into an embassy wielding a knife and an axe, however, I'm not sure how far a warning shot would go to improve the situation...

"Arrrrrrrgh! Eat Axe! Arrrrrrrrgh!"

"That was a warning."

"Oh, you've called my bluff, good sir. I figured the firearms you're carrying were for show... I'm terribly sorry."

What do you base that on? Another source? The OP source only calls the victim a security guard. It's not clear whether they mean a USMC embassy guard, an Israeli law enforcement officer, or a security guard of unknown origin.

According to my sources, the guard yelled, "Your one warning. Cut it out"; effectively ending the incident.

Taking knives to a gunfight works for Gurkhas and a few others, not so much for your everyday scumbag or psychopath.

Warning shots don't really work for anyone who works for public safety.

It may depend on where the warning shot lands. The sholder of the axe wielding arm would be my choise.
