Warm?

Recommended Posts

You are seriously misinformed.

CO2 has to act to warm the climate. It can't not act that way, and the magnitude of the forcing can be calculated from simple physics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiative_forcing

The hockeystick graph and the associated methodology has been examined by the National Academy of Science an the conclusion has been upheld. Other scientists have replicated the work and have confirmed it's conclusions using other techniques and independent proxy measurements.

Take a look at the references below, it might cause you to re-evaluate your sources of information.

CO2 lags temperature:

What a stupid statement!
Well professor, you should stick to your specialty whatever that is. Last time I checked the U.S.A. was sitting right there on the earth. I'm not so sure about whatever planet you're on.

I dunno, maybe it's something that physics profs aren't smart enough to know....what affects the U.S. also affects the world.
My reality and yours are quite different.

Is it really that difficult for some people to understand that the US having a cooler than average month does not imply that the world was cooler than average during that month? It doesn't matter a bit that "the U.S.A. was sitting right there on the earth."

The question is how valid is data that uses world averages?

The data do not "use world averages." Population means are estimated from the data. The limitations of estimating the mean from data from around the world are no different from the limitations of estimating the mean from data, and those limitations are very well understood and taken into consideration when analyses are done.

How is Bill's crap getting from California to Ethiopia?

Its global you silly. I could have used the Mississippi delta region or the recent s struck by a hurricane but i didnt want such an interesting thread about misinformed people to get seconded to SC. ;-)

From NOAA:
•The average combined global land and ocean surface temperature for January–October 2012 was the eighth warmest such period on record

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/2012/10

Eight other years were warmer, yet CO2 has never been higher in history. It seems a week link. You are confusing coincidence with causality.

The problem with your analysis is you make it sound as if the ONLY thing that matters is the last eight years of data...which is complete nonsense.

Other than wasting ten minutes of my life what was your point? I learned about that getting my MBA.

The larger and more important point is that man-made CO2 is NOT causing the planet to warm; I could say that my INCOME is causing the planet to warm. In fact my income level corresponds to global temps. BETTER that CO2 levels.

Well, you haven't demonstrated you have.

If you want to cherry pick your start and end points to make your case. Fine. That's going to convince some people of your argument, but certainly not anyone who looks at the longer set of data.

What start/end points and what longer set of data? Keep in mind that I could go all prehistoric on you.

Apparently it is very difficult for POPSJUMPER to accept that the USA is not the entire world, and for BRENTHUTCH to understand time series analysis.

Let's just for a second assume that AGW is real. What would need to change to rectify it?

Kind of obvious really, just parse your own question. We can do this several ways, but you know what would actually be the most effective? Reduce the amount of humans on the planet.

Now, most people aren't going to find that to be an acceptable answer. Very few people will accept the idea of limiting population, so we have to do the next best thing; reduce the amount of impact people have on the environment by limiting the amount of greenhouse gasses are produced per capita.

I know all of that. I want real examples. Because I don't think the solutions needed are even possible to accomplish and maintain an economic structure that woks.

Holy sh*t, what a question. :S

No wonder that the US did not sign the Kyoto Protocol. B|

Jeez. Where are you living, on the moon??

When the poster above you starts talking about eliminating population from the planet I don't think someone from your country should be chiming in seeing as how your country attempted to solve AGW before AGW was cool.

I want real examples.

Here's a few easy examples, most of which are pretty painless:

Don't drive a large car/SUV when a subcompact will do the job.

Don't drive any motor vehicle when your feet or a bicycle will do the job.

Combine trips.

Buy locally grown food whenever possible.

Eat less meat.

When possible, use a toaster oven instead of a full size oven.

Keep your tires inflated.

Use rechargeable batteries.

Use LED lighting whenever practical.

Turn off lights when leaving a room. Turn off appliances when not in use.

Whenever practical, plug electronics into surge protector with power switch, and switch the whole thing off instead of allowing the electronics to go on standby.

Turn the thermostat down a couple degrees in the winter and up a couple of degrees in the summer.

It's really not hard to significantly reduce one's carbon footprint without significant changes to one's lifestyle.

Wrong. Data for the U.S. is included in your "world" numbers and reports. What's so hard for you and Kallend to understand about that?

You still didn't tell us what planet you are on today. You are pitifully hilarious.
