Channman 2 #54 November 15, 2012 When Democrats lose elections, do they ever discuss the possibility they may have to become pro-life? Do they ever say, "You know what?, we may have to give up this gay marriage position of ours and abandon that. We need to stand up for traditional marriage." Hell no they never discuss those things. Dems get all weak in the knees, "we need to advocate for the Second Amendment, we don't want to alienate our voters who love guns." When they loss elections do they tell themselves to tone down the rhetoric." They don't abandon their principles, nor should the Republican party abandon the principles of conservatisiam. Conservatisiam works everytime its tried, not that it was tried in the last two presidental elections. Republicans didn't pick up 65 house sets in 2010 by abandoning their principles...The Dems when they have a member in trouble they circle the wagons, Republican circle the firing squad. Election come and go, this last one was a down right bummer for me, but Kallend mentioned the Sun would rise and set, and our lives would go on. billvon 3,095 #55 November 15, 2012 >When Democrats lose elections, do they ever discuss the possibility they may have >to become pro-life? Yes. Democrats got trounced in the 2002 elections. They then discussed easing their opposition to abortion. Indeed, when the 2003 law banning partial birth abortion was passed, 63 democrats voted for it. >They don't abandon their principles, nor should the Republican party abandon >the principles of conservatisiam. Personally I agree. However, they should abandon their anti-woman and anti-gay planks, and use more math and less wishful thinking. The more rational republicans seem to agree. >The Dems when they have a member in trouble they circle the wagons, Republican >circle the firing squad. And then, apparently, they secede. A note found close to his body purportedly said, "Do not revive! (Expletive deleted) Obama!" The Associated Press reports police claim Henry Hamilton was distraught over President Barack Obama's re-election and followed through on his threat to kill himself should the president win the Nov. 6 contest. But the Party did realize that gun control was a losing proposition and have made no efforts to replace the silly assault weapons ban since then. Well, I guess I look at this differently. If a party wants to survive it is going to have to adapt over the years so they can represent a majority of the voting population. If they just staunchly want to hang on to principles, they may find their support dwindling and becoming irrelevant. Concept goes for both parties (or all parties really). So yes, I would hope that when the Democrats lse an election they look at their positions and see if those need to be refined based on the will of the population. Agreed, and that's why telling yourself what you want to hear (or only listening to news that fits your prejudices) is so dangerous. You won't re-examine your positions if you have told yourself that you are already popular and well supported. In this case we had FOX News and sites like "deskew.com" actually changing data to make republicans think they were winning. Right here on DZ.com we had people who were positive Romney would win by a large margin. It wasn't that the data wasn't there, it's that they preferred a different version of the data, and thus they were blindsided when they lost badly. They didn't have a chance to re-examine their more unpopular positions before that happened. That's a good lesson going forward. All political parties spin the story to make themselves sound better. But when those parties start believing their own spin, you can have some very unexpected outcomes.

Yep...and that's one major reason why we, as a population, get ourselves unto such outrageous situations, politically speaking. On the one hand, it just may be that our representatives have all come to realize that the U.S. population has no earthly clue as to what is best for it so they don't bother to ask. Well, until they lose the election and then ask, "What went wrong?" QuoteYou won't re-examine your positions if you have told yourself that you are already popular and well supported.
