Quite a leap from criticism of an overbloated government that tries to do everything to total anarchy, don't you think?

You are right, that is not really a good comparison.

Where would you draw the line, though ?

Just to educate you in the use of Google...amazing what bits of truth you can find.

"Ike formed on September 1st 2008 and dissipated on September 13th. Its cost in damages reached an estimated $32 billion, 103 people were killed as a direct result of Ike."

I think those stats are more like Apples to Apples.

I was replying to your, we the conservatives are oh so much better at handling a catastrophe and your specific examples.

I also think the Government did very well on preparing for Sandy. Even the German press was full of praise.

Hopefully you can still rejoice when the unemployment numbers come in over the next few months. Oh, are you and your ilk in for some really big surprises. How's that stock market looking to you? Happy about it, too? I know the Obama defenders will search the web trying to find their usual justifications but, we all know why it's collapsing.

Not my fault that the "Party of No" retains control of the House.

Yep, No more spending. Pisses you off doesn't it? :D

Will piss the military off too if the House can't get its act together.

The Military isgoing to have to deal with large cuts, also.

Are you suggesting anarchy? A coup d'etat, maybe?

Channing, there was some mayhem, and there was plenty of get-down-to-work going on as well. Galveston being and island and Bolivar being a peninsula really helped with securing places from looting. Few other places around here had the kind of general devastation that leads to looting -- it was more of a case where some houses in a neighborhood were hit hard, and others still had people living in them. Looting mainly happens when there is no one left for awhile.

That said, Houston, particularly after its response to Katrina (which was stellar), did do well after Ike.

So what part of the evacuation of katrina evauees was steller? The part that Houston opened its doors for the evacuees? OR the part where crime took a sudden spike?

Perhaps you remember the time when they were giving out FEMA credit cards...then they caught one of the recipients of the cards at the galleria spending the entire amount on a necklace. Please elaborate on how you thought any part of the process OTHER than houston opening its doors to being a good neighbor was stellar and how that came out to being something positive for houston.

The part where Houston rolled up its sleeves and helped with a problem that was real and immediate, in the best way that it could think of at the time.

Just like in a skydive, real-world situations happen in realtime, and retrospect makes different decisions really obvious sometimes.

And as far as crime statistics, much of that "spike" was in perception, and not actuality. Here and here are some annual crime statistics charts for Houston including that period.

Yeah, there were crimes that happened because of it. And if I get in a wreck on my way to my volunteer job, I was still doing the right thing.

Usual Justifications? you must mean like the facts, something a lot of you GOP boys have a hard time with. If you're too lazy too Google "Stock market under Obama" and then not notice all those little graphs going in the up direction, you're lost and in serious denial. Here ya go, let me help.

https://www.google.com/search?q=obama+stock+market&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS484US486&aq=f&oq=obama+stock+market&sugexp=chrome,mod=12&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#hl=en&tbo=d&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS484US486&q=stock+market+under+obama&revid=1683620531&sa=X&ei=3i-dUMWlEoGsiAK05YHACg&ved=0CKUBENUCKAA&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=97283d9747b20204&bpcl=38093640&biw=1366&bih=659

But by all means, go a head and keep believing all those same things, and then see where that gets you in 2016.

Take another look today. Yes, the last couple of days were quite down.

Up 72% in Obama's first term, and will be up 40-50% in the second.

Sorry, I thought you an JClalor understood we were talking about since the election. That is what this thread is about isn't it? I didn't think you would try and expand the time frame to justify a failed Presidency.

The first part of the sentence was just an intro to the second. Without that:

The stock market will rise 40-50% during Obama's second term.

Better?

It would have gone up under Romney too.

What a bunch of squirming, whining babies. Republicans need to do some serious introspection, if they're even capable of that.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

The hypocrisy of that statement is just incredible, after the GOP spent so much time and effort disenfranchising the poor and elderly who have no photo IDs.

OK which states do you think want to secede from the union first?

looks like Louisiana is the first in line.
http://www.wnd.com/2012/11/louisiana-residents-petition-to-secede/

If they hit 25000 I wonder if they'll get a response.

several more people from other states have similar petitions posted. (TX, AL, NC, FL, KY, GA, MS, IN, MT)

An act of supreme petulance and foolishness.

As much as some wags in those states may want it, cooler heads will prevail the second one of the adults in the room looks at the math.

That said, if not, I wish them well. Let's see precisely how long they last without US support.

we need to get together and get along. Do you remember the spike in gas prices after Katrina? The above listed states contain much of the countries oil refining capacity.

you wish them well... I wish we would all pull together and remind our elected officials of the contents of the document they took an oath to uphold. INCLUDING the individuals that filed the above mentioned petitions.

If any state wanted to secede from the Union, got people to sign a petition, put it to a vote of the entire state, it passed and they had the will of their electorate to do so . . .

Precisely what, if anything, should the US do in response other than remove all Federal jobs, funding and military from that state?

What else could I possibly do BUT wish them well? Did you want me to be upset with them?

OR...

Are you admitting the very notion of seceding is simply petulant foolishness I had stated earlier?

Far be it from me to wish it comes to that and who am I to stop an entire state from performing an ultimately foolish act, but if so, I stand by my previous statement; I wish them well.

Your attitude as displayed shows me that you don't care about the integrity of the country. "People want to leave? fuck it, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out" -- that's what I heard in your post. You shouldn't be upset with the people who want to leave, you should be disappointed that they would rather leave than try to fix the problem. Perhaps you think they are the problem and you can get along without them. "petulance and foolishness" were your words I believe? I'd hope that you'd care enough about our nation to want to fix the problems causing them to leave. I'm not talking about who is in office. I'm talking about the erosion of our liberties over the past 20 or so years and the complete and total disregard for the contents of the constitution.

ah... you got my point (or at least part of it) while I was posting.

Nonsense. They are the outliers.

As stated before, cooler heads will prevail.

This act of foolishness is nothing more than that nor will it ever be more than that. I look at it like the dimbulbs on either side who threaten to move to another country...yet...for some strange reason...never do.

Why? It's completely up to them. If they want to stay to try to fix the problem, great. If they want to leave, that's fine too. The last thing I would want to do is try to keep someone here who doesn't want to be here. Then they become part of the problem, rather than part of the solution.
