Their zeal combined with human frailty sent them into error, no question. That being said, I believe their motivations were sound at the beginning. That is why we have a system of checks and balances. In these types of situations we have organizations such as the ACLU as watchdogs.

My father used to say that he was a true conservative, because conservative values included paying your bills, helping people, and having America be a beacon of opportunity across the world. He said this in the 2000's, as a counter to the Republican spending on the wars, all the "keep them out at all costs" border efforts, and attempts to reduce welfare programs no matter what.

Having a newspaper column gives one a wider audience in trying to co-opt the language, but doesn't really give one a greater right.

Because of my profession as a counselor, I always considered myself very liberal. I did not have problems working with any classification of client. However, the Democratic Party has made liberal a negative word. I was looking for a better, more descriptive term. When I heard Horowitz explain the difference I had the term I was looking for. For me Radical Left is a better description than Liberal Left.
