lawrocket 3 #29 October 9, 2012 QuoteHow about those who have made up their minds before the debates even started? That's kinda my point. I know people who will never, ever vote for Romney. Debates be damned. Watching the debate, for most people, is like watching a football game. PEople go in rooting for their team. After one candidate get his ass handed to him, the supporters figure, "Bad day, but we have to prepare for next week. Go team!" Then there's the whole fair-weather fan bandwagon aspect. Jump on with the winner. My wife is hotter than your wife.

However, when someone's bio on their own memoir states they're born in another country, and his grandmother also states he's born in another country, I don't think asking him to prove where he was born is an attack. I do know where Romney was born, where his father worked, what he did. Discussing what someone has done/not done is not an attack. Attributing motives to that may be an attack. It is not an attack to call Obama incompetent because of the fact that he has not done what he promised to do.If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. DanG 1 #31 October 9, 2012 I agree that families should be off limits until they put themselves in the spotlight for political purposes. I think attacks on Romney's wife for things she said at the convention and political events are fair game. Attacks on her for other things are low class. Same is the case for Michelle Obama. As far as personal attacks on the candidates, I haven't seen as much of that in this cycles as in the past. I was not expecting RStanley and other posters to bring that up, since I hadn't really seen a lot of attacks that I consider personal against Romney. Attacking him for the 47% thing is not personal. Attacking him for his history with Bain is not personal. I guess I'm not sure what attacks people see as disgusting. - Dan G

How about when they've definitively proved where and when they were born? Is continuing to imply that they are a foreigner a personal attack? You didn't answer my first question. skypuppy 1 #37 October 9, 2012 QuoteHave you seem "proof" of where Mitt Romney was born? As I said, I know Romney's father's background, so yes, I know where Romney was born. I don't need proof. Where the candidate's own memoir and grandmother imply that he was born outside the country, then yes, people are entitled to question the location of his birth and ask for proof. If his memoir hadn't stated he was born outside the country, and his grandmother hadn't stated he was born outside the country, then it probably wouldn't be relevant. But they did.If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. DanG 1 #40 October 9, 2012 Okay, so the one as that implied Romney's policies led to the death of that woman was out of line. I agree with that. Was that your only problem? I live in Virginia, and am constantly bombarded by attack ads. DanG 1 #45 October 9, 2012 It's not an example of a trend if it's the only one of it's kind. Can you think of any other personal attack ads? I can't, but maybe they are out there. The ads from both sides are almost entirely negative, which I find really annoying, but they do at least try to address issues instead of personality. - Dan G
