brenthutch 444 #1 October 6, 2012 Setting aside the political hyperbole, Bush and Obama are more alike than different. Bush; Tax cuts and deficit spending, Obama; tax cuts and deficit spending. Bush; Unfunded entitlement program, Obama; Unfunded entitlement program. Bush; militaristic adventureisem, Obama; militaristic adventurism. Bush; constitution stomping disregard for civil liberties, Obama; constitutionl stomping disregard for civil liberties. Bush, no child left behind, Obama Race to the top. It goes on and on. The smaller the differences the more vociferous the rhetoric.

Although their marketing messages differ radically (one of my friends speculated that they need to do that to get their jaded supporters to the voting booth), what they do once in office is about the same. Many a true word is spoken in jest. Some years ago the BBC had a comedy series called "Yes, Prime Minister" (it was shown on PBS over here). The basic premise is that whatever the politician wants to do, he/she is totally at the mercy of the career civil servants, who can always outlast the politicians.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
