My retirement fund is looking great right now. However, I replied to Fortson's comment about the markets.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. SPY and other funds of funds based on it or VTI represent more than half my portfolio. 73% is a big fucking deal. (and yes, credit for this is a different matter, but if the question is am I better off than I was 4 years ago, the answer is a big big yes)

I on the other hand cashed out on the downside, knowing all of the time that was the worst possible play. However I knew that I had to protect my family, so at a loss of several hundreds of thousands of dollars I made that decision. Sucks for me. But that is ok, I can deal with that. It is noteworthy that Kallend made "a bundle" under our capitalist system and yet rails against it while I lost a bundle and understand that my loss is part of a much bigger picture. Like George Carlin said Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesn’t impress me.

Those are the same Co's the GOV threatened with a suit of they told their employees they would get a pink slip in advance so they could plan a new career/life move right? So now they are just going to lay them off unannounced. Like our Company did. Same Co's the GOV wanted to hold off the lay offs till End of Oct, in a hope the news of 100,000's of lost jobs would not give away a Re-election? are they those companies? Yeah the 114,000~ "new jobs" number are BS, it discounts the equal, if not higher numbers lost. But one has to read many local papers and watch local media and add them up to see. Since the local mom and pop store than employees, 5 to 10 going our of business isn't big enough for the GOV to factor, or even care about. Nashville TN alone is out of balance, but no one wants that known as they try and court Co's to bring more business here. They even count 2000 jobs as "gained" for a project starting construction in 2013 but not "opening" for business till 2015. So I and my fellow lay off-ees we still work part time jobs (two in my case) and look for work, hoping it is nearby so I don't have to sell my home at a loss. Am I better off than I was four years ago? No. MattAn Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
