Republicans - cut it out!

Recommended Posts

This is getting out of hand. Romney is gaffing left and right, Ryan won't even talk about numbers in the budget, and now three states are investigating GOP voter fraud. Republicans have tried to redefine rape for political advantage. Twice. The presidency, once seemingly ripe for the taking, is now almost completely out of Romney's grasp. Retaking the Senate once looked doable, now it's nearly impossible mathematically. Pollsters are even seeing rising odds that the democrats will take the house back. And while the whole process has been amusing, providing endless material for pundits and comedians alike. it's getting a little absurd.

So Republicans - cut it out! The country can't afford to have one party control both houses and the presidency. That's a recipe for disaster no matter which party it is. When a president doesn't have to deal with an intransigent Congress, and Congress doesn't have to fear the veto, then any limits on spending, new wars, new expanded government programs etc go right out the window.

It's all well and good to attack the other side; heck, it's why this forum was created. But Republicans can no longer afford to waste their time bitching about the democrats. They need to turn their energies to fixing the holes in their own party before they see their influence in Congress disappear completely.

So the next time Republicans feel the urge to whine about something, aim that complaint where it will do some good - at the GOP leaders who are blowing any chance we have to avoid a solid democratic majority. That's not good for anyone (even Democrats.)

The GOP has jumped the shark. It is time for the remaining sane members to leave and start a new party, where nutcases like Michele Bachmann, etc, are *not* welcome.

Enjoy yourselves, it's later than you think.

Find me a republican these days that's willing acknowledge this and maybe we'll be in business again. Until then, expect the politics from the right to remain childish, adversarial, obstinate, polarized and brazenly dishonest while their whining becomes ever more shrill.

Hi normiss,

homeowners will lose the mortgage interest deduction.

Disclaimer: I am no seer.

IMO this will be just the beginning of many things that today are deductible but will not be in the near future.

Reagan said he was not raising taxes. He just got rid of a lot of deductions.

It is a great plan, take away deductions that help the average citizen, and use the money saved to provide huge tax cuts to the folks that are already paying the lowest tax rates EVER.

This is Reich Wing Conservatism at it best and finest hour!!!
Jump on the bandwagon for tax cuts for the "job creators" who will save the economy (every where else but the USA)!!!!

Three cheers for the gullible among us who vote Rescumlican!!!

Thanks a lot, assholes...

Listening to NPR today, they make it sound like homeowners will lose the mortgage interest deduction.
No matter WHO we vote for.

Probably not anytime soon. The deduction props up the prices of homes. If it were not present, they'd be 30% (WAG) lower. When you consider how many people are underwater right now or right on the bubble, that's a short term iliquidity crisis we can't manage.

It's hard to implement, period, without a rocky period, unless the deduction were phased out over 10 to 20 years.

Damn shame NEITHER PARTY will provide any details to their plans.

I think I'm finally ready to vote for Ron Paul.

ALL votes are a waste this time around.

In order to provide details they'd actually need to HAVE those details.

And nobody knows how they are going to do what they propose.
Mainly because it's impossible.

Many of them have ideas in their mind, but they see the current stalemate. Look at the deficit committee that wouldn't even vote for its own results. Why on earth would someone present an unpopular solution that would not even be considered? That person gets all of the negative publicity for even thinking it, but none of the rewards of advancing a solution.

That's unlikely to happen given the National Association of Realtors (ranked first among PACs in terms of campaign contributions for the 2008 election), National Association of Home Builders (12), Mortgage Bankers Association, and a slew of other PACs which have made keeping house prices up a government priority.

Ryan SHOULD be leading Republicans to the promised land - but due to protocol, he is not allowed to outshine the presidential candidate, so he takes a back seat and shuts up.

The right-wing does not have the balls to stand up and say what is REALLY on their mind - they might actually win if they did, and so Ryan sits there stifled.

I'm not saying it is good or bad, it is just the way that it is....

And thank you for once again demonstrating my point. In three months I'm sure you'll be able to come up with with some other pithy zingers against the party in power. Sure beats actually doing anything.

OK, what are the Democrats willing to compromise on?

>OK, what are the Democrats willing to compromise on?

You're again missing my point. You can now spend your next 200 posts whining on the Internet about how the democrats are uncompromising assholes. You might even convince RushMC to vote for Romney!

Or you could actually do something about it. Your choice.
