Why don't aircraft windows roll down?

Recommended Posts

“When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous. And she was choking and rubbing her eyes. Fortunately, there was enough oxygen for the pilot and copilot to make a safe landing in Denver. But she’s safe and sound.” Mitt Romney, 9/22/2012 in Los Angeles

Would that be the 57 states in Mitt's FOREIGN USA?

Hey, did Obama let us know when he got to that 57th state?

I never heard.......

So you really have no explanation for Mitt's absolute ignorance about aircraft.

Thought not.

So you need/want to make a big deal out of nothing

In all fairness, I doubt most people know why airplane windows don't open.

In further fairness, the pilot's window in my plane does open, and I'm pretty sure the one in your plane opens, too.

This is silly. I don't like Romney much, but this whole line of ridicule make the ridiculer look worse than the ridiculee.

If airplanes get roll down windows then the subs deserve to get screen doors.
It's only fair to redistribute the goodies that everyone wants for free.

:S

I'm constantly asking myself why some people have become naturalized US citizens. Given their constant hatred drivel, it seems they despise this nation and everything about it.

Less bitching.
More living.

The argumentative style of a 15YO sophomore. For over three years I have been puzzled by this technique.

The MooneyPilot/Vent window opens the last time I checked. Hell the window on a Citabria opens and can be lock under the Left Wing. The 1941 Stearman I fly from time to time comes with no windows, gives me the chills when hanging inverted...but I like it.

Obama has a plexiglass belly button window which doesn't open. With his head up his ASS most days it still allows him to play golf, which is a good thing I suppose.:S

I'm not defending kallend's style, but the same could easily be said for you.

He hates the right, you hate the left. I've never seen either one of you say you hate America.

>The MooneyPilot/Vent window opens the last time I checked.

Yep. And no passenger jet out there has windows that open so the passengers can "get more oxygen" if there's a fire.

He said something stupid; it was on a trivial topic that doesn't matter, so it would be best to ignore it so people can get back to more important topics. Defending what he said just makes his supporters look stupid as well - and keeps the discussion focused on crap that doesn't matter.

That didn't even make sense (although it was a good expression of incoherent rage if that's what you were going for.)

>Maybe I'll see if my office window opens and get more oxygen.

Why? Is your office on fire? I hear that getting more oxygen will put that fire right out.

Thanks man, your the best. I'll keep that bit of knowledge tucked away in the event of an emergency. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I'm sorry, I don't understand.
Why are you comparing a momentary mental slip (that obviously doesn't relate to underlying lack of knowledge) to a fundamental lack of understanding of a particular technology?

Politicians do have those fun slips from time to time; Bush #2 was particularly prone to them as I recall.

I pretty much agree with you on all points...

I would prefer that a guy who might be elected President understood that adding oxygen to a fire is a bad idea though. Critical knowledge for being President? Maybe not, but it kinda makes me wonder what else he's confused about. Anyone who paid attention in high school or college chemistry should know this.

Sounds like there's plenty of cognitive dissonance to go around.
Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful.
