You're really on a roll in this thread.

It does not matter so much where a person came from or what they did in the past.

Really? Then why all the focus on what Obama did in grade school and college decades ago?

The best guidance I know is to vote the path that supports the Bible.

Romney clearly doesn't support the Bible as you understand it. How can you vote for him if that's your position?

I want the mechanic who can fix it.

Um, which is it? Supporting the Bible, or practical fixes to the economy?

BHO's background clearly determines where he is headed and what he wants to do to this country.

I'm not voting for Romney on a religious basis. I am voting against BHO.

When Christians vote they need to use the Bible as their guide. A lot of Christians will support BHO, I won't.

Don't be defensive. I am trying to understand you, as well as the other Liberal skydivers, not what you think.

There's your problem: you assume there is a disconnect between what someone is and what they think. No doubt this is because of your often stated disdain for thinking, and your equally often stated preference for gut feeling and deference to tribalism. In your case, there is an obvious difference between "who you are" and "what you think". If we define "thinking" as pondering various courses of action and probable outcomes, questioning the veracity of information, and critically evaluating the basis for one's beliefs, well that's just not part of your makeup (judging by what you post anyway).

In the case of this "liberal" (as you have chosen to label me, though you do not know me), you cannot separate "who I am" from "what I think". I am a thinking person. I sincerely hope the major difference between "liberal" and "conservative" is not "thinking" vs "not thinking", though you and a couple of other examples would lead me to that conclusion. Thankfully there are a few others who demonstrate that some conservatives are capable of rational thought.

>So, an increase in taxes is your payoff and for you that is a positive benefit.

For me it's a negative personal benefit from a purely selfish perspective. I will likely pay more taxes and thus have less money to buy skydives, toys etc.

However, some of the other things that may come of his presidency (fewer wars, more rights for friends of mine, less reliance on foreign oil) may benefit people I care about, and may benefit my children. I realize that's not a very popular way to look at things in today's "me" culture.

Overall Romney and Obama won't do much that's different. They will both increase spending on their favorite causes and they will both decrease taxes (and we can afford neither.) From what I've seen so far, Obama is less likely to make the _really_ stupid mistakes that I think Romney is capable of.
