kelpdiver 2 #26 September 4, 2012 Quote Hey, I don't know much about running. I ran in a 5K about two years ago, and I don't remember now what my time was. I wouldn't even know what is considered an average or excellent time (off the top of my head). So I guess it made sense to me that he could make such a mistake. Did you do any preparation for that 5k? I will venture little to none. You don't need to. So the number isn't going to burn into your memory. People can do a 10k with minimal training based on the amount of walking most people (used to?) do. An average time for a runner would be 8 min mile pace (< 25 mins). Better than average is 7 (< 22), excellent would be sub 6 (< 19). Laymans target might be sub 9 (28). But people train a bit more for a 26 mile race, and they have a long time to see the clock...in his case, more than an hour of seeing a time over 2:50s. Had he said 2:15 (which would be elite), then I could see him confusing with a half marathon performance.
Southern_Man 0 #27 September 4, 2012 I'm an avid runner (the type who can be a bit obsessive about my training). I know all my PRs down to the second. I couldn't care less that Ryan reported the wrong time. Doesn't matter at all. His political philosophy matters (but only a little, as he is running for VP under an extremely flawed candidate)."What if there were no hypothetical questions?" He is an avid athlete as well. I think you know as well as I that he didn't misreport, he rather misrepresented himself to try to appeal to people like you or me. I appreciate that Ryan, unlike virtually everyone else in Congress, has the balls to actually propose a solution (or as I see it, a starting point) for the spending problem. The GOP has been full of pretenders and people like him are new blood to solve this. But in the last 8 days, he's been blowing a lot of smoke up our ass and he's already on the ticket with Mr Etch a Sketch himself.
kallend 2,148 #29 September 4, 2012 Quote Anyhow, I doubt this one thing will change anyone's vote one way or another. Anyone who cares about this, probably wasn't going to vote for him anyway. And some of us who don't care about this weren't going to vote for him anyway. By itself it could be a genuine error. However, over the past week he has shown himself to be an almost pathological liar. In that context, this lie takes on a new meaning to anyone who actually cares about facts. Maybe he FELT that his time was sub 3 hours (that's good enough for Ron)..... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
