shah269 0 #26 August 19, 2012 I don't think we can blame the parents. The girls are old enough and smart enough. Eat a bag of chips you will die eat an apple and you will live. I mean it was sad as hell and for me it was very hard to keep my mouth shut! Muffin tops.....like i were freaking sheet cake top! And you know it's sad to see a 17yo girl with that ball of fat at the back of her neck the size of a freaking grape fruit....and neither of them can stand up straight....hunched over like they are 70.... Sigh....yeah i'm a fucking prick when it comes to being mean to engineers and chubby girls but when it's your friends kids...what the hell do you say? Do you pull them aside and say "Hey i know your kids doctor says they are on the brink of a horrible life but judas on a stick do something?" Sigh i don't know....Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. The only thing that falls from the sky is birdshit and fools! It doesn't make a bit of sense to blame anyone but the parents. Where do you think kids learn their eating habits? Do you really believe it's a coincidence that all three daughters of those parents are unhealthy? Once again, you want to abandon all logic and reason in an attempt to rationalize how being rude to unhealthy people doesn't make one an asshole.Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! shah269 0 #28 August 19, 2012 Do you remember a few months back where I posted a thread about picky eaters....well these girls were the classic picky eaters. everything they ate had to come from a brand label! had to come from a container had to be processed! I asked them if they liked mushroom..no...peppers...no..onions...nope! They lived on a diet of chicken, potatoes, rice, corn and processed food. no fish since they didn't like fish. no meet since they didn't like that either. so you know what you are 100000% right! god forbid i have kids but if those kids give me lip about not wanting to eat a given food....well too bad they are going to eat it!Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. Hopefully you realize that people with type 2 diabetes must limit their intake of fruit (sugar) and carbohydrates. Maximum carbohydrates per day is 175 g. Less is even better. Gravitymaster 0 #32 August 20, 2012 If the parents are overweight too, it may be due to ignorance about proper exercise and diet. We just finished an event at a County Fair and it was interesting to see overweight children walking with their overweight parents and the whole family munching on funnel cakes and cotton candy, chasing it with an extra large lemonade or soda. A discount on insurance premiums for attending a nutrition class is a good idea. Similar to discounts on auto insurance for taking a drivers education class. I think it's likely poor nutrition is generational.
oldwomanc6 60 #33 August 20, 2012 Yes, this is very sad, but too often seen nowadays. I hate to tell you, but chips and an apple are not so very different when it comes to type II diabetes. The key to avoiding developing it and making it worse if you already have it is avoiding blood sugar spikes. Both the apple and chips will cause this. Unfortunately, both fruit and juices are notorious in this particular issue. They are all fairly simple carbs. If you carb load your body, your body will send insulin out to lower your blood sugar, do this often enough, your body will get tired of doing this. This is type II diabetes--also called insulin resistant diabetes. Unfortunately, this is getting more common with the adoption of SAD (Standard American Diet).lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB
shah269 0 #34 August 20, 2012 I'm not a doctor but I play one on TV so I have no clue what these girls should eat and should not eat! But all I can tell you that it's not good and it did not look good and it did not sound good. A girl who is only 17 should not be stating point blank that her doctor has told her that she is 10lbs short of having to be on medication. And an early 20 something to be told that unless she gets her diet under check she will have to be on meds as well. It's down right scarry! On so many levels! On an econmic level where ... let's face it I'm paying for their insurance because they could not be bothered to work out and eat well. And on a social level....mofo I'm a freaking shallow single man! And you have a better chance of meeting Jesus than ever seeing me date a fatty boombatty! Which means this man may need to start seriously looking at mail order wives if he wishes to marry a hot lon glegged FLAT BELLIED chick! So to summ it up...it's not about them..it's all about me and I am fucked! Financially and in the love department! Unless we as a sciety change and start calling out these pople who what they are! FAT! I'm sorry I'm willing to bet good money that the cost to society of emotional trauma caused by calling someong a fatty is much lower than the cost of them eating themselves to death! Why don't you walk up to your engineer buddy and ask him why he taught his daughters such unhealthy lifestyle habits that they grew up to be diabetic tubs of lard? Yes, it would still be a complete asshole thing to do, but you would finally be accurate with respect to your blame game. Of course, that would do nothing to address the problem. It would just allow you to do what most adults recognize as unacceptable social behavior. If you want to address the problem, see my original post in the thread. "Free parking is bad. You're back to rejecting logic and reason and blaming the victim. So a doctor friend of ours noted that he has patients come in and unhealthy and she advises them that if they just lose 40-50 pounds, they might be able to mitigate their sickness and diabetes, etc etc etc. Apparently, they typically decline and just ask for the meds to treat it. They aren't interested in curing themselves, just want the meds. I'm amazed. It must be very frustrating to be a doctor. ... wmw999 2,588 #41 August 20, 2012 My sister-in-law is a diabetes nurse. She said that the overwhelming majority of her patients are noncompliant with lifestyle changes -- they want to take a pill (at the most) and be fixed magically. I think that we've gone too far down the life-can-be-easy path. Maybe if more people actually had to walk, pick crops, sweep, fetch water, we wouldn't be quite as out of shape. So many time-saving conveniences and appliances. What do we use that time for? Planting our butts in front of the TV or computer and eating prepackaged snacks.
