CSpenceFLY 1 #1 August 9, 2012 http://www.13wmaz.com/news/georgia/article/191621/52/Gwinnett-Selling-Guns-Confiscated-by-Police- Discuss: LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A metro Atlanta county is selling its confiscated firearms to the highest bidder under a new state law. The Gwinnett County Commission this week approved a contract with Montgomery, Ala.-based Gulf States Distributors to purchase 62 guns for $10,760. Gwinnett County police Cpl. Ed Ritter tells WSB Radio (http://bit.ly/S47pYr) that it marks only the second time the department has held a public auction for firearms that were seized during a crime. In the past, police destroyed them. Ritter says the highest bidder must be a licensed firearms dealer. The money raised from the sale will go to the police department. Ritter says the department plans to hold auctions twice a year from now on.

Andy9o8 2 #3 August 9, 2012 QuoteThe money raised from the sale will go to the police department. Well, that seems like an exclusive windfall for one county agency (police) that nobody else in the county gets to share in. It's taxpayers' money that funds police departments, so why don't the proceeds get paid into, say, the county general fund?
RonD1120 62 #4 August 9, 2012 Is it not a common practice for law enforcement agencies to sell other types of seized properties such as cars, boats, houses, etc? Don't those funds typically return to the agency? I am genuinely curious about this topic.Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

normiss 897 #6 August 9, 2012 I remember a joke from back when I was in high school....it was finally decided cops in FL could burn the confiscated drugs. So they took it all over to the incinerator near the beach. There wasn't a tern left unstoned.
kelpdiver 2 #7 August 9, 2012 Quote Should be fun when a new owner's gun numbers come up in a crime database..... sounds like a new version of Fast & Furious - let crime guns out into circulation again and then point to their existence of evidence of how bad guns in public circulation are. OTOH, it's stupid to melt them down as scrap...use this money to buy the officers some vests.

davjohns 1 #9 August 10, 2012 Actually, it used to be common to have crowds gather when pot was being burned in large amounts. I've seen people holding onto the chain link fence sucking up the smoke. Pretty amusing. Not illegal unless they drove afterwards while impaired. They were never in possession.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
