Shotgun 1 #2 August 2, 2012 I hope it doesn't have much of a turn-out. It's a childish reaction to the ignorant and/or bigoted reaction that was "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day." If you don't like who Chick-fil-A donates money to or what they have to say, then don't spend your money there, and feel free to speak out about it. But don't go there just to antagonize them; it makes you look like an ass and does nothing to help your cause.

My point is the size of the story differences I think we will see from the lame stream media I have said this once and I will say it again To me this has less to do with same sex marriage as it does with goverment officials trying to keep a business out of thier area because of what they believe Where would it end?"America will never be destroyed from the outside, if we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." I don't know. "Gentleman's clubs" are not allowed in my town, and I assume that has to do with government officials (and voters) not liking what they believe/represent. Not saying I agree with Emanuel or Moreno, just pointing out that "beliefs" already play a part in determining which businesses end up in certain areas. Anyhow, from the stories I read yesterday, not a single person mentioned what you just said. The folks standing in line for chicken were there to "protect free speech" (as if this guy was being prosecuted for saying anything) or to show support for "traditional marriage" (oppose marriage equality). I don't see the difference between "speak out about it" and "protest at the company sites." When you protest a business, you do it at the business. That's the point - tell others to get some swill from another place like Carl's Jr, err, I mean Wendy's, err...McDonald's is politically ok (I think....). In and Out used to be until the founding family died off. If city officials alter the zoning ordinances to target a specific business (hello, Walmart?), there's reason for concern. But they don't have to welcome the business either, just as the Boy Scouts are getting the cold shoulder for their discriminatory practices.

Shotgun 1 #9 August 2, 2012 QuoteI don't see the difference between "speak out about it" and "protest at the company sites." I just think the "kissing" thing is a little bit tacky and immature. It's rubbing homosexuality in their faces, which is only going to make homophobic people even more homophobic. I don't see how it will accomplish anything. But I don't see anything wrong with simply protesting at the company site. Attempt to educate people on what the real problem is that the LGBT community has with Chick-fil-A (the donations and the degrading comments, not the simple comments of supporting "traditional" marriage). I don't see how it will accomplish anything. One result of living in San Francisco is a difference sense of where the line is - two gays kissing doesn't get a second glance. PETA often camps outside the fast food places with cow costumes and meat is murder type signs. But for the real issues, streets are blocked, windows are getting broken, people parading around naked, etc. Rubbing homesexuality in our faces would be assless chaps and a guy fucking another on the street. A kiss-in demonstrates to customers that gays exist and they're not going to hide. I got no problems with it.
Shotgun 1 #11 August 2, 2012 I don't have any problem with gay people (or anyone else) kissing each other, but I don't think a massive "kiss-in" is a good tactic in this case. Just my opinion . . . But then this whole Chick-fil-A thing has turned pretty silly. So far, I think the only thing that will come out of it is that the company will cash in for a little while. davjohns 1 #16 August 3, 2012 I'm in the bible belt. The news reported the Chik Fil A's in the area had lines they couldn't service on the support day. If people are really occupying the business to protest, I expect there will be problems and people will go to jail. That should bring publicity, but not good for the homosexual rights people.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Marinus 0 #23 August 3, 2012 Yeah I know, smart strategy of CFA btw. There must be many idiots out there that believe giving away water is an act of Christian neighbourly love. Not that I support the jerk in the vid, but I understand they fired him for venting a non-homophobic opinion? He may be an ass-hole but that's just stupid. Shotgun 1 #24 August 3, 2012 QuoteKind of what I expect will be happening today. Hopefully not.... I understand the guy's frustration, but I think he was directing it at the wrong person. I think Chick-fil-A - like most Christian organizations - is truly trying to do good. This controversy has encouraged me to look more at the company, and they do seem to have some good programs (through WinShape) aimed at trying to keep marriages and families together and healthy. Unfortunately, to me (and obviously many other people) their donations to and support for groups who actively try to keep homosexual couples from even having the opportunity to have marriages and families as heterosexuals do - this overshadows the otherwise good work they are trying to do. But I'm starting to think this is borne more from ignorance than from hate. It seems to me the people whose opinions on gay rights have "evolved," that this has come about through learning and actual experience around homosexual couples and families. I know many are trying to hold on to the old "well the Bible says so," but that's such a cop-out. The Bible says plenty of things that Christians choose to ignore when their own sense of morals (or perhaps what their pastor tells them) contradicts or overrides. OK, I'm still finding it bizarre that we are having this conversation around a fast-food chicken chain.....
