When I came back home to Detroit from a 4 year tour, I couldn't even recognize my home town...It was 10x run down...I was surrounded by arabic sinage, women in burkas, mosques blasting the call to prayer, and my Catholic highscool turned into an islamic academy....while a sickly muslim begged me to take him to the hospital as his "brothers" stood by and did NOTHING...some servicemen would've felt as if they never left the mid east...seriously...I didn't know where the hell I was...I seriously felt as if I was in a nightmare. How do you know which part was the nightmare? - was it just the part about the area being rundown and the old man not getting any help from his neighbors? or the part about the community's culture being changed? it's a pretty high horse to just assume the second one - again, even for you at least asking "which part are you talking about?" is a less of an inference to calling out 'RACISM' on the guy ... normiss 906 #11 July 20, 2012 Seriously? So you've never noticed the pockets in cities that people seem to create? Huh. I've always considered it a draw to most of those neighborhoods. It's also interesting to go back to neighborhoods I've lived in and see the changes as people move around and/or up in life. How the hell is pointing that out considered a PA? rehmwa 2 #12 July 20, 2012 QuoteHow the hell is pointing that out considered a PA? looked like a pretty clear cry of racist to me YMMV but why "How the hell" you don't see that even a little bit? .... YMMV (your outrage is fine, but the written word is goofy. maybe Bill will clarify, and then I'll withdraw the note. but it seemed pretty clear on my read) I clarified the read in my post if that helps you understand why I took it that way. BTW - I like the little pockets when they improve the neighborhood and give us places to go to experience that positively. I don't like the pockets when they run down the neighborhood. Either can happen. ... normiss 906 #13 July 20, 2012 Well for some reason we seem to have always referred to some pockets with a racial slur if that's how they're seen. China Town Little Italy Little Havana Little Mexico Little Vietnam South Philly () I'm sure there are plenty of others.... I even recall as a kid hearing my mom say (from the front seat while driving through town) "Lock your doors, we're in nigger town" I stopped that chain in my family and it shows in my kids attitudes and their friends. rehmwa 2 #14 July 20, 2012 QuoteI stopped that chain in my family and it shows in my kids attitudes and their friends. Us too. I think that's great. And likely your folks stopped a worse chain. And our kids will take it another step farther and talk about how bad we were. Generations are funny that way. ... Marinus 0 #18 July 21, 2012 I think calling islamophobia rasism is just stupid, but as far as I can see C. isn't even being islamopobic here. He draws the conclusion that his neighbourhood went to hell after a large influx of (Islamic) immigrants. While this may be a mortal sin against the "immigration=100%-cultural-enrichment-(period)-gospel", that doesn't automatically make it a wrong observation. It had more to do with the logic that if more people (i.e. Muslims) want to live in a desirable area (in a good area near by a Mosque with other Muslims) and have money values would go up. Nothing to do specifically with a Mosque being there. ...and that probably holds true for the suburbs of Detroit once the immigrants get on their feet after a few government subsidies, and learn that this isn't a desert or a place with goats who will eat our grass...we have to mow our lawns here without relying on my dad to keep shit groomed every week. Many of the arabs go on to live very successful lives here in the US...I'm just tired of them shitting on my hometown that put so much into helping make their american dream come true...This is a very sensitive "safe haven" town and we're on the brink of loosing it to the riff raff of Detroit....they don't understand that and jeopardize it for future immigrants.Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are...
