I think Rice would be the one most likely to help him win the election.

Carries too much baggage from the 43rd Aministration.
Has repeatedly said in no uncertain terms she's not interested.

Doesn't really matter - they are going to lose. The smart person offered the spot would feign interest but find a plausible reason not to accept. Being the VP candidate on a hard right wing losing ticket that is this much out of touch with reality would be a very bad move. I've heard Pawlenty as a front runner - but he is a smart man and I say he declines if offered.

Polling says otherwise.

Well I think the lesson to be learned was that the wolf eventually came, didn't he? Funny how that escapes some people...

Given that we've had steadily increasing levels of wealth, quality of life, personal rights and lifespan, if a wolf has come - he's a pretty nice one.

I think there are a lot of people who would either ignore this or see her experience as balancing it out. And, as much as I hate to say this, I think Rice would help take votes away from women and minorities that Obama has mostly secured.

Just one minor problem with Rice, not only is she a black woman, she's a Gay black woman. Not a chance in a hell a Mormon (or for that matter any Republican in 2012) will pick her as a running mate.

You're not going to find any pictures if that's what you're looking for, but there's always going to be speculation about anyone who is in their mid-50s, never been married or had children. Not that any of those are definitive items, but in combination they do lead some people to question and speculation on Rice goes back to at least her time in the 43rd.

Agreed. She'd also take votes away from Romney. Like it or not, there is a real group of voters who favor Romney over Obama for no other reason than because he's white. (I'm in no way implying that everyone who opposes Obama is racist.) She's also fairly liberal, as Republicans go, as is Romney, so they don't balance out well. Rice on the ticket might inspire some conservatives to stay home in November.

Her effect on the election notwithstanding, from what I know of her, I think she'd make a fine VP, better than many of the other (Republican) options, maybe all of them.

You may be miserable, but by any standards we're doing better than ever. No longer are you pretty much assured to lose children during childbirth. More than likely no one in your family will ever suffer polio, or plague, or malaria. We aren't burning witches. Blacks aren't enslaved. Women can get almost any job a man can. We are living longer and our quality of life is higher.

Sure, some people will still complain, about how horrible this politician or that political movement is. But the vast majority of people out there just want to live their lives and raise their families in peace, and this is a pretty good time to do that.

(And keep in mind there are still some people alive who lived through World War II; more still who lived through the Korean War and Vietnam. Telling such people that they had it so much better than you - well, they may not agree.)

Generally? Accurate. Not that anybody in "Hollywood" gives a rats ass. It's the freaked out ultra-right-wing fanatics who go apeshit over stuff like that, which is why moderates in the GOP are pretty much forced to lead secret and sometimes ridiculously hypocritical lives.

She also does not currently follow the Republican party line on abortion.

This is the final nail.

Are there really so many people who strictly follow the Republican or Democratic party line on all issues? I certainly don't. But I tend to lean a little left, so I usually end up voting Democrat or some party other than Republican. However, if there was a Republican who "doesn't follow the party line" in a way that I agree with (issues that are important to me), I might vote for them. And I don't think I'm the only one who is close to the middle and possibly swayable.
