Like it or not, there is a real group of voters who favor Romney over Obama for no other reason than because he's white. (I'm in no way implying that everyone who opposes Obama is racist.) She's also fairly liberal, as Republicans go, as is Romney, so they don't balance out well. Rice on the ticket might inspire some conservatives to stay home in November. Her effect on the election notwithstanding, from what I know of her, I think she'd make a fine VP, better than many of the other (Republican) options, maybe all of them.Math tutoring available. billvon 3,116 #44 July 17, 2012 >"Optimism is the madness of insisting that all is well when we are miserable." You may be miserable, but by any standards we're doing better than ever. No longer are you pretty much assured to lose children during childbirth. More than likely no one in your family will ever suffer polio, or plague, or malaria. We aren't burning witches. Blacks aren't enslaved. Women can get almost any job a man can. We are living longer and our quality of life is higher. Sure, some people will still complain, about how horrible this politician or that political movement is. But the vast majority of people out there just want to live their lives and raise their families in peace, and this is a pretty good time to do that. (And keep in mind there are still some people alive who lived through World War II; more still who lived through the Korean War and Vietnam. Telling such people that they had it so much better than you - well, they may not agree.)

Shotgun 1 #50 July 17, 2012 QuoteShe also does not currently follow the Republican party line on abortion. This is the final nail. Are there really so many people who strictly follow the Republican or Democratic party line on all issues? I certainly don't. But I tend to lean a little left, so I usually end up voting Democrat or some party other than Republican. However, if there was a Republican who "doesn't follow the party line" in a way that I agree with (issues that are important to me), I might vote for them. And I don't think I'm the only one who is close to the middle and possibly swayable.
