I'm going to throw out another opinion. To me, this is really just another version of bashing Obama. He deserves some, but not necessarily all of it.

The thing to remember about our elections is that we have the opportunity to move them out every (x) years. If we elect someone new and he doesn't work out, that's really not that big a deal -- there isn't enough time to consolidate that much power. It's the ones that we return again and again and again, just because we're familiar with them, that piss me off.

We gain from having knowledgeable people in Congress -- I'm not sure that term limits across the board are the answer. But it'd be nice to be able to declare 10% (or whatever) of Congress ineligible for re-election each time. Fresh blood is good. Yes, less gets done -- but we're talking about a whole country here -- doing less at once is often better.

Good posts Sparky and John.
Thanks for the realism.
Ahhh...but some will see the truth of it, some won't.

I just posted it. I am not claiming it as my own. My political views are something I usually keep to myself. Discussing them face to face is foolish, discussing them over the net is like waving a red flag to the trolls.

Perhaps, but watching them tilt flag poles at each other is very entertaining. :)

In my experience, in order to survive you occasionally have to get your hands dirty. If you choose to be a sheep that is fine and no criticism from me. However, what I criticize is that you are bad mouthing the sheepdogs that are trying to keep you safe.

Literally LOL! OK, you simply must humor me with why you think I want or need your protection, and tell me how you're keeping me safe. After that, well, just get over yourself, because adherence to dogma instead of finding your own path makes you more of a sheep than a sheepdog. Also note, the uniquely callous brand of religion you promote is unlikely to attract as many followers as the kinder, more compassionate versions promoted by your peers. Honey will catch more flies than vinegar and all that.

You made a comment on the macro level and I responded on the macro level. Now you come back on the micro level. You Liberals are a slippery bunch I tell ya'.

In Apr 09 I started out with positive messages and was attacked. So I changed my tactic and started giving back as I get.

In the past you have been extremely antagonistic. Here lately you have been bordering on moderate. I can hold my own either way.

"Eyes on the olive branch with arrows at the ready."

I don't know about any macro/micro levels, I was just asking how the heck you think I'm criticizing you for keeping me safe. XD I do remember you used to post more moderately, with a somewhat traditional Christian tone. I don't recall being particularly antagonistic toward you until this exchange. As popsjumper pointed out, it was probably ill-advised, but the message you've been selling for the last year or so is not something I'd imagine *anyone* wanting to buy. If you're going to be a spokesman for Christianity, my advice (take it or leave it) would be to bias your opinions in a christ-like direction. Assuming he existed (which I do), he was by all accounts a pretty righteous dude...peace, love, kindness, etc. Pretty much the opposite of what you've been preaching lately. Or are you just going all old testament on our asses?

With a preference for killing worshipers of other gods, condemning queers to eternal damnation, and making absolutely positively sure that poor people don't get medical care on your dime?

Sounds just like like your 'Merikan politicos yet you put your full faith in them.
Go figure

It's where we are today. Thanks.

I don't really get the lingo, and I think you might have me confused with someone else, so I'll just let this pass.

specifically thinned by Ron's own statements in this forum. .....Ron? Not so much.

So now we have a few self-appointed anti-religion luminaries following Ron around and bastardizing other threads.
Nice....

He popped into this thread with a "me and mine will serve the Lord". I was merely pointing out the ridiculousness of that statement in comparison to his other opinions.

After all your ranting, you say this?
:S:S:S

A valid point. The thought did cross my mind that I was being somewhat hypocritcal by using antagonistic speech to denounce what I perceive as an ongoing trend of callous and distinctly "un-christian" statements by Ron. I probably should have taken the time to be a bit more PC in my criticism.

Somewhere there's a continuum going from rude, through blunt, through tactful, all the way to PC. It's multidimensional, so it's really not entirely linear (i.e. you can be rude and PC at the same time).

But being tactful or polite isn't PC, it's polite.

Hmmm, interesting.

Basically macro means general or grand scale. Micro means specific or small scale.

I thought our exchange now was more moderate and the past more antagonistic. It certainly looks like miscommunication to me.

One thing that never works, for anyone, is to tell someone else how they should think, act, feel or speak. That is why you are getting reactive statements from me and others.

When you accuse me of banishing gays to hell it is not true. I have no power to do that. The Bible says it is an abomination.

Sin is sin, all equal and all capable of forgiveness.

I have been a counselor and a group facilitator in treatment facilities. When the exchanges border on encounter group rules I change my tactics.

Also, for me the game becomes a challenge to say what I need to say without being kicked out of the SC. That requires refraining from name calling. Coreece is better at it than I am but our styles are different.

As a general rule of thumb for self edification, whenever you encounter a word that you do not understand stop reading and look up the definition. Because, everything after that word is going to be influenced by its definition.

Winsor's posts are great for that. He uses words and phrases that will make you think.

The great commission of Christ was not to win souls but to make disciples. Only the Holy Spirit can bring a person to salvation. The evangelist's job is to make you aware that salvation exists. My job is to help those along the path after they have made the decision for Christ.

I am not honey.
Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

for me it's not so much about being tactful and polite, but the willingness to self reflect and admit one's faults in public...some people are just too insecure to do that...or too haughty or egotistical, or whatever the malfunction.

That's twice in this thread that you've gotten me to laugh out loud. I do actually know what the words macro and micro mean, I just wasn't getting the relevance to this exchange. My vocabulary is both qualitatively and quantitatively robust, and I'm surprised to see that at least one person who's been reading my posts for years thought otherwise. I do agree that Winsor's linguistic calisthenics are always pretty entertaining.

I'm also familiar with your post and know you boast in the fact that you lie for a living.

Your persistent slander of others is disgraceful. And you really need to get a grip on your temper.

The sad thing is that you have like 30 some years on me and yet you still play on the internet with the remnant of my adolescence...
