mnealtx 0 #1 June 28, 2012 Good. Link QuoteThe House voted Thursday to place Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for not complying with a congressional subpoena. Seventeen Democrats bucked party lines and voted with Republicans to pass a criminal contempt resolution in a 255-67 vote. House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) pushed that resolution as part of his 16-month investigation into a botched Fast and Furious gun-tracking operation.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. winsor 236 #8 June 29, 2012 Quotenot that anything will come of it. Recall that Nixon left office not for orchestrating the Watergate break-in, but for participating in the cover-up. Impeachment proceedings against Clinton were not the result of getting a honkjob, but for denying it under oath. "Oh! What a tangled web we weave When first we practice to deceive!," and so forth. davjohns 1 #9 June 29, 2012 Now what? Does the House Sergeant at Arms go arrest him? I'm not sure how they can enforce it since the Executive is clearly not going to cooperate. I've always wondered why the House doesn't just do the obvious and cut the purse strings when sections of the government get squirrelly. This is shaping up to be a weird election year.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
StreetScooby 5 #10 June 29, 2012 House could arrest Holder with inherent contempt power Quote Republicans say it’s not even under consideration, with House Speaker John A. Boehner’s spokesman flatly ruling it out. But the process, known as inherent contempt, is well-established by precedent, has been confirmed by multiple Supreme Court rulings, and is available to any Congress willing to force such a confrontation. We are all engines of karma
