Mare vero de more conscendens pedes regis & crura, since reverentia madefecit. Rex igitur resiliens ait. Sciant omnes habitantes orbem vanam & frivolam regum esse potentiam, nec regis qempiam nomine dignum praeter eum, cuius nutui coelum terra mare legibus obediunt aeternis, [Rex igitur Cnut nunquam postea coronam auream cervici sua imposuit, sed super imaginem Domini, quae cruci affixa erat, posuit eam in aeternum, in laudem Dei regis magni:] Cuius misericordia Cnut regis anima quiete fruatur. Maybe they'll legislate that pi = 3 next. That would be convenient, after all.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. billvon 3,119 #5 June 28, 2012 >How does sea-level rise more in one place than in another? The sea isn't flat. Not only do tides change it, but warming it one area will make it expand while cooler oceans in other places remain the same or shrink. Winds cause sea level rises as do currents and salinity (which is changed by evaporation.) Finally, the earth's gravity is not uniform, so even absent all those forces the sea won't approximate a sphere. As a concrete example of this, the Pacific is 8 inches higher than the Atlantic at the Panama Canal.

kelpdiver 2 #11 June 28, 2012 QuoteAm I missing something obvious? How does sea-level rise more in one place than in another? speaking generally, the land masses themselves tend to rise or fall due to shifting of plates. I thought Lawrocket or someone else noted recently that the Eastern Seaboard is a falling mass. But before we get too dramatic, Shah, their estimate was that in 90 years, that area may see an extra 20-29 cm of height (a foot, basically). We already know that they'll be wiped out by the constant Cat 4+ hurricanes long before then.

lawrocket 3 #13 June 29, 2012 The climate science squelching law actually requires climate predictions to based upon historical data. I know, I know. Using historical data does things like invalidate predictions that Missoula faces grave risk of intense hurricanes in 2100. I know, history doesn't suggest it, but I'm sure I can come up with forecasts and models that show it happening. Anybody else feel outraged at making predictions based on past events? I predict at least one lake effect blizzard every two years rolling off of Lake Okeechobee by 2050. No, don't look at historical data. We must act now to manage this coming climate. Note: check this site out: http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/sltrends/sltrends.shtml[url] Take a look at where the sea level is rising. Oh, it's massive in Louisiana. Because the land is SINKING. Sea level rising is but a minor part of it. The sea level isn't RISING where these tide gauges are. The tide gauges are sinking. (The Titanic has a massive sea level rise 100 years ago. Sea level rose a couple of miles in a couple of hours. WOW!) Next thing you know, NC will pass a law that says inundation forecasts must take land subsidence into account. Thus being ANTI-CLIMATE SCIENCE!! My wife is hotter than your wife.

I bet you even make raise and firing decisions based on past performance, not what you imagine the person will do in the future. >Take a look at where the sea level is rising. Oh, it's massive in Louisiana. Because the >land is SINKING. Sea level rising is but a minor part of it. Right. That's what the web page says.
