And, like quade you're coming in late on the message exchange. Beowulf and I were doing OK. He doesn't need the late arrival of a big brother.

What? That was a private mail conversation between you and someone else? You forgot to *mark* it like that :S - or perhaps should have made it via PMs?

I'd love to enter the thread, as I have something to tell to the world - is it too late now?

I am confused .... are you Mr. Methusalem? :o

By that logic, a grandma who dated Henry Ford would be a better driver than Jeff Gordon. My money's on the kid.

You made me chuckle. Logic only makes complete sense to people who have studied logic. It is a secular humanistic concept, shared by mortal philosophers. Common folk communicate without it.

Try to get a computer to function using the communication standards of "common folk."

Let me know how that works out.

Somehow this dumb ol' country boy managed to acquire an A+ Certification. Nowadays all you have to do is follow the dialogue windows. It's so easy a caveman can do it.

I was 62 at the time. I never booted a PC until I was 54. Then the next thing I did was reformat C drive. Then things became puzzling.

I was once a full fledged believer and I had my own "spiritual" experiences as you call them so I know exactly what you're talking about. If anyone has a broader spectrum of insight, I've been on both sides of the fence and you have not. You don't know what it's like to see the religion for what it really is.

Well then I have a question. Since you have gone full circle in your spiritual life and are now back where you began without God, what is driving you so passionately to convert other to your fabricated reality? Especially when your reality has shit to offer except anger and hate. Oh and by the way, scientific discovery is available to all. So concluding God does not exist based on our current technology is a naive delusion.

He started as a believer, I think. No full circle here, just what he thinks of as progression.

Many intelligent people who were raised by intolerant religious types seem to turn far more forcefully against religion than those who are either not as smart, or who don't have it used as a club in their upbringing.

A club is a rotten tool to use on a kid, whether it's physical, emotional or religious.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

This is an interesting question. If he said yes, I believe there is a God, would you immediately discount his view? If he said no, would you give what he said more credence?

Projecting one's negative experience of religion onto everyone else is far from intelligent...it's just typical everyday bigoted ignorance.

I would argue religion has had a net negative effect on you, me, and all of society. Why defend it?

Nope...but I do think he should read the whole thread before he asks me about things I've already covered.

Are you kidding me, again? This is SC...we're still discussing the same crap from when I got here 5 years ago, lol...it's like being suspended in a steaming vortex of shit.

...and btw, you might want to heed your own advice.

My Statement:
"I didn't grow up in a really religious home."

Your response to me:
"I was raised in the church and I used to be a believer just like you."

I've also gave you plenty of reasons why I believe, but you still seem to insist on believing it's because I was raised in the church...I didn't believe until I was 27. Completely different perspectives.

How am I to have a meaningful conversation with you, when it's like talking to a jabberwacky?

Nobody is asking you to...If you prefer to live life through a negative perspective then there is nothing I can really do about that. I know many bitter old bats that have been quite "successful" being driven by anger, hate and resentment...that life just doesn't work for me anymore.

Yes I do. And at the same time I reject religion that has been created by some as a power grab to manipulate the masses. To some extent Christianity has been corrupted into a religion.

That statement would also apply to those projecting their positive experience with religion.

Deltron insists that it's meaningless that my faith makes me feel good and that my experience with religion was actually negative.

He's the one projecting his experience onto me...

I never told him that his experience with religion was actually positive but he just didn't know it...lol:S

I agree. My wife are checking out a new church in the mountains of north GA. First one I attended in years.
