skypuppy 1 #1 May 9, 2012 Quebec is already suing the feds to get the info on quebec gun owners, rather than destroying it. Now other provinces are attempting to maintain a paper record in order to reinstate a new registry once the Conservatives are out of office. Here is one article in which the Ontario Provincial Police openly defy the feds. http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/politics/archives/2012/05/20120509-140218.htmlIf some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
skypuppy 1 #2 May 14, 2012 and now even tho' the head of the RCMP has written letters to the CFOs in the provinces that they ARE NOT to have required anything that could resemble a registry, the CFO's in Ontario and Alberta in particular have specifically stated that they don't care what the feds and the rcmp say, their own legal advisors have told them they can require this information. Apparently these guys had gotten together in February in order to prepare for the eventuality that the long gun registry would be repealed, and this was what they came up with. http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/straighttalk/archives/2012/05/20120513-083854.htmlIf some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. popsjumper 2 #3 May 14, 2012 Mixed feelings here. No, I do not agree with the idea of "...get(ting) the info on Quebec gun owners. OTOH, it's refreshing to see that somebody has the balls to stand up against the federal goobermint like that.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Oh yeah, great to see people with their own agenda ignore the law because they know better. [/sarcasm off]

Sadly, what is lost in this exchange about the specific law, government and independent provincial CFO's is that the Conservatives made it one of their campaign pledges to remove the long-gun registry. A significant majority of the electorate placed them in power. So my issue is that these uniformed bureaucrats are not just in contravention of a legitimate Law of the Land, but one that succeeded on the will of the citizens. And the CFO's were appointed to serve the commissioner of the RCMP, but now seem to think they are at the top of the chain of command. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme.
