Germany announces plans for gun registry

I find it fucking hilarious that anybody anywhere on the planet seriously thinks ANY sport has any significance or importance of any kind.
It's a fucking business. Period.

Enjoyable way to pass time with friends drinking some adult beverages, sure...but importance or significance? Not so much.

Everything in life is a business, doesn't take away potential importance or significance.

I ahve had exposure to both NFL and european soccer fans. The level of commitment from some European soccer fans is quite extraordinary.

Depends how you measure it. Average mean) salary for a player in the English Premier League is ~1.8 million dollars (and that is tax free or after tax). That is barely smaller than the average NFL salary of 1.9 million (before tax). There are fewer Premier League players than there are NFL players since there are only 20 teams instead of 32 and average roster sizes are, I think, slightly smaller. However if you look at the total number of leagues available there are far more opportunities in soccer. I don't think the Premier League is the highest paid, either. Looks like the average in Serie A is 5 million Euros, in the Bundesliga 3.3 million Euros, I believe La Liga and Ligue One have lower average salaries but even there you have some extremely high salaries as Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two highest payroll teams in the world. Heck even the Russian Premiere League pays 4.5 million pounds/year and the Chinese Superleague is ~1 million pounds. So, if you add up all of the professional opportunities, it is pretty clear to me that the amount of money in soccer dwarfs that in American football (which lets face is only really consists of the NFL and maybe the CFL).

I'd say the team size is substantially larger. Barcelona has 25 players (an incidentally, missed payroll only 2 years ago and needed to borrow 125M to get back on track), versus the NFL team's 53 player roster.

And that money is focused primarily on the strikers, whereas in the NFL the top 10 salaries includes QBs, defensives tackles, and ends, with cornerbacks coming next, then left guards, linebackers, receivers...the stars of nearly any position can make the top 50. Looking at the top 50 for each sport, the NFL holds that edge all the way down.

Not seen in the salaries.

Is that so? I wouldn't know the details, but I can't imagine that the most important sport in the world pays less than some favourite local pass-time. You've no idea how insignificant American Fussball is on the rest of the planet, haven't you?

You didn't know the details about injuries either, but that didn't stop you.

Let's face it, any given soccer league is still a "favorite local pass-time." The people in Latin America will pay attention to the Premiere league to the degree that their local players are there, but otherwise focus regionally. I doubt many Englanders pay even passing reference to the Colombian or Chinese leagues. So be it for the NFL as well, it just happens to be in the largest economy on the planet.

BTW, if the measurement is going to be in dollars spent, golf may be kicking everyone's ass.
