skydiver30960 0 #2 April 29, 2012 Although I can't speak to the veracity of the numbers, I tend to agree with the title of the thread and the sentiment of the video. Unfortunately, I think we're locked into this ride until we reach the very bitter end. Fact of the matter is the US population (and most people in fact, not just us) are so short-sighted and greedy that it would be political suicide to try to run on the platform suggested in the clip. "Vote for me and I'm going to take more of your money and give you less in return." Nobody would vote for them, because the idea of an America in ruins is so alien to anyone who didn't grow up in the Great Depression. At the moment it is much easier for us to bury our heads in the sand. Politicians will keep telling us what they need to say to get elected. When the shit REALLY hits the fan, THEN they can try to look good making "it's going to be Hell but we'll get through it together" speeches, and keep getting elected. quade 4 #3 April 29, 2012 While I agree with your sentiment that we're all at fault by way of being complicit, I completely disagree with the video linked that it would be "impossible" to balance the budget. Lower what you can, raise taxes to what would balance it. Done. Just don't be pussies about having to pay your fair share.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

airdvr 210 #7 April 30, 2012 I suffered from the "half not paying their fair share" delusion until I realized that we'll probably be chanting about that fantasy as the incoming train collides with our reality. There have always been those who give and those who take, and it is going to require a huge effort from those that give. Personally, I don't see it happening in my lifetime. I'm talking to Rox about buying a gun...a real gun. Not the 22 pea shooter we have now. When "austerity" becomes a reality I'm thinking we'll be looked upon as the "haves".Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne

This is on a par with Virgil Starkwell, after receiving 800 years for 52 counts of armed robbery, expressing confidence that, with good behavior, he may get his sentence cut in half, or perhaps when Topper Harley offers to deduct $10 a month to pay for a destroyed fighter jet. 8,000 comedians out of work, and you have to make jokes. Either that or you could use a bit of remedial arithmetic.
