Watch and learn: >Gitmo Romney will both close Gitmo and keep it open to protect the US from terrorists. >Transparency on legislation Romney will promise to be completely transparent in all his dealings. Then he won't release any more of his tax returns. >Tax increases Romney will pledge to not increase taxes to keep the government out of American's pockets, and increase them as needed to close to budget hole. >Afganistan Romney will end the war in Afghanistan while continuing the war to protect American interests in the area. Obama won't be able to be anywhere near as flexible.

JerryBaumchen 1,468 #31 April 18, 2012 Hi Rich, Quote How in the world will Mitt Romney be able to hold his own in a debate with Obama? He will just say, "I was brain-washed." Deja vu all over again. JerryBaumchen

pirana 0 #35 April 19, 2012 QuoteAfter watching the Republican debates and primary speeches for so long, I have a question. How in the world will Mitt Romney be able to hold his own in a debate with Obama? Romney has flip flopped all over the place. ObamaCare was his idea. Romney has flat out lied, a lot. Romney can't attack him on national security with any real zest. The economy has improved. When Mitt goes after job losses, Obama can wreck him with some Bain deals job loss numbers. Obama hasn't taken any guns as predicted. So what does Mitt have that gives him any type of advantage in the debates? He's a better liar. Face it, the debates are basically a 90 minutes arbitrated dual press release. Almost nothing of substance. The candidates, especially Romney, will repeat their same appeals to emotion with all kinds of half-true soundbites. In other words, very much like all the other speeches we've heard so far." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Then they become candidates by way of the delegates giving them the party nod. Then both candidates are promptly purchased by rich special interest groups - making the general election a meaningless excercise in futility - I mean Democracy." . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
billvon 3,120 #37 April 19, 2012 >Then both candidates are promptly purchased by rich special interest groups You've just described democracy in a capitalist society. All politicians are "purchased" (i.e. voted for) by "special interest groups" (i.e. voters) who use money as a way to influence other voters.

Romney's best advantage is that he's a new liar. Obama has the baggage of the past 4 years and the blame it on Bush routine is passing its expiration date. Debates don't have to be shitty, with prearranged questions and 60 second rebuttal times being used for speech making. But the rules are determined (effectively) by the person leading in the polls. I think the best situation for a good debate is one where Obama has a 2pt lead and feels confident in his speaking ability compared to Romney, and would allow for a free swinging format. With that narrow a lead, he can't puss out and refuse.
