billeisele 130 #12 March 27, 2012 guess that parent didn't know about the bedding that has a pocket on the side of the mattress to hold a handgun, some styles have multiple pockets to accomodate them being flipped and rotated they are not advertised but I predict that once someone saves their life using a weapon that was concealed this way they will become a spokespersonGive one city to the thugs so they can all live together. I vote for Chicago where they have strict gun laws.

I'm not saying it isn't possible, but I know when I was a kid, if I accidentally shot myself with my dad's gun I found under the bed, I would probably have come up with a similar story. Yep, sounds fishy to me. The girl was shot in the ankle. The gun under the mattress would have to be laying on its side. So even if the gun somehow discharged under the mattress, the bullet would go parallel to the mattress, and it would not hit the girl jumping around on top of the mattress up above the gun. I don't see how those two things could intersect. People blame the gun all the time for their own sloppy gun handling. And that may be what's going on here. DougH 270 #17 March 27, 2012 Either kids shot herself playing with a gun that should have been secured. Or parents shot the kid while handling the gun in unsafe manner while pointed in an unsafe direction. And that are only two possibilities.

And yet the story still smells fishy.

It stretches belief a little. Kallend's citation includes more information in the comments that the owner was felon, so already got some problems here. If it really did go off, we're probably talking about a cheapie gun. More affordable, but not so reliable or well built. Perhaps all our felon could afford to buy. DaVinci 0 #25 March 27, 2012 QuoteDon't need anyone to pull the trigger. Uh, unlikely that jumping a bed caused the gun to fire. But I'll give you a little something for your trouble.... Responsible gun owners should not have a gun stored in such a way with kids in the house. With kids in the house, they should have a safe. Think this will come up in a search later?
