normiss 906 #26 March 13, 2012 The first, and significantly more severe mistake is leaving a gun, a loaded gun, where a minor can reach it. Leaving two kids this age in a car alone is really of no significance IMO.
livendive 8 #27 March 13, 2012 QuoteI'm probably going to be in the minority saying this but, the guy being a cop shouldn't even be an issue. Why did the media report that? To sensationalize the story? If the guy was a janitor or a doctor, I doubt they would have mentioned his career. The guy should not be held to a higher standard just because he is cop. ALL gun owners should be held to the highest level. Not especially cops, everyone. Being a cop shouldn't necessarily trigger extra scrutiny as a gun owner, but being unable to safely own a weapon should certainly cause doubts about his suitability for police work. sfzombie 3 #28 March 13, 2012 no, kid, not kids, and only on the weekend. as i stated, whenever he is left unsupervised in the house or with friends, it is put away. they are not assumptions if they are tested. when he is alone, i can't get him to fire the weapon, even with me standing there. when he has friends over, all bets are off, they are kids after all. that's when it goes up. my thoughts are that they are kids and need constant supervision. every responsible parent needs to remember this and take appropriate action in that regard. and it's not an assumption that he cannot pull the slide back, period. now stupid would be leaving one in the chamber...triggers are easy and he knows how to work the safety.http://kitswv.com

kelpdiver 2 #30 March 13, 2012 QuoteWhy is everybody in this thread totally ignoring the fact that the children were left in the car, unattended? That's usually illegal anywhere, it doesn't matter if there's a gun in the car or not. no, this is not illegal. Leaving them in a hot car with the windows sealed...yes, because the heat puts them at risk. Not because they're in a car.
airtwardo 7 #31 March 13, 2012 The only thing dumber than doing that...is trying to logically justify it in a thread about a child being killed in an accidental shooting with a loaded unattended firearm. Give CPS a ring and run you logic past them...a little extra input couldn't hurt. Good luck. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
