Just how many rotten apples can there be?

Nice twist on words. I can see why you chose your profession. No one said anything about British troops getting out of line. I was referring to the acts committed by both civilian sides in the conflict. Mainly to each other, and any innocent bystanders that happened to be in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Like walking down the street, or coming out of a movie theatre. And Skyrad is entitiled to say anything he wants. And, Perry Mason, please stick to what people really say. No one is going to be impressed with your courtroom antics of twisting their words around. And if Skyrad and I are embarrassing ourselves, according to you, that shouldn't concern you. We're happy to entertain you. Maybe we are just ordinary guys, lacking your education and razor sharp wit, honed by many years in the courtroom.

There are no easy answers, or solutions, to situations like this. The more British officers told me about it, the happier I was that my war was in the African bush. Much simpler. I suppose I should run this by Andy first. Just to make sure I'm not embarrassing myself.

So because Brit troops committed atrocities in the 70s that disqualifies Skyrad from criticizing US troops in 2012? What a childish approach to the debate. If you're not ready for the Bigs, stay off the sandlot. You two are embarrassing yourselves.

This place is hardly the "Bigs."

Now, when we actually have decent facts about the incident that sparked your thread, we may learn what happened, we may learn there was a prior incident that sparked this. We may learn that there was an enemy who was engaged and fled into the civilians homes.

We'll probably learn that a piece of human waste killed 9 kiddies and 6 other people because he thought it was a good idea at the time. Just make sure that thing never gets out of prison again.

Even better, just drop off this USeless Army Staff Sergeant in the Afghan village at sunset. Come back to collect his remains an hour later.

Make sure to wash, rinse, and repeat up the command chain, to the highest level! WH included!!!

P.S.: And maybe ultimately, let's send over some of the GOP voters (war mongers) from KS, GA, FL, etc. They need to experience their own "medicine", too!!!

I wonder what you would say if hoards of Christians went on a murderous killing spree because someone burned a Bible?

Assuming the question came from students in an 8th grade Social Studies class, which is about the level of discourse this question typifies, I'd say all those troops from that predominantly non-Christian country should declare victory after 10 years and get the fuck out of their country.

Not that I would regret it much if this POS would die in an unfortunate accident involving lots of honey, some pickets and rope and an anthill, but technically I'm against cruel and unusual punishment. It is however an interesting idea to see if he should be tried under Afghan law I think.

I'm sure that there are factors that contributed to this massacre like stress and stuff, but in the end the main reason for this atrocity is most probably the fact that this guy is a psychopathic sicko.

I find it kind of peculiar that people try to redeem hm, especially here on SC were people are crucified over their political believes and lesser "crimes". Come on the guy slaughtered 16 people in cold blood, if there ever was a time to get the (proverbial) hammer and nails out, it's now I think.

The military leadership needs to turn this POS over to the Afgans for trial.
If they let him live, the US military should prosecute him after they let him loose.
Military execution - his choice - hanging or firing squad.

Well, in regards to the thread, I tried to keep name calling, bias, and emotion out of it, and stick to facts, which are slowly coming out. I am sure your technique will make for a better debate though.

Thanks for your 5th grade level response. Did your degree come from a matchbook cover or from the back of a comic book?

You're basically right, but unless all the news regarding this is total bullocks, it's completely clear what happened. And yes, call me biassed and emotional, but someone who has, among other things, killed a 3 yo girl and 8 other kids, is a PoS in my book.

With things like this, my opposition to the DP is on rational/ethical grounds not on emotional grounds, so I really can't blame you if you'd like to see him hang. (You're not the only one I must admit [:/] ) And of course there's a practical and political side to it too. You can't really sell it to the Afghan public if they don't execute him ASAP and publicly.

Is that before or after the Afghan public executes the persons that have shot six of our troops in the last two weeks?

I cannot imagine the challenge the military and the government has when fighting an enemy that hides in the civilians as well as the mosques.

All the more reason for us and the world to not tolerate this type of behavior.

Again, not saying we should. Just wondering if he's going to hold them to the same standards as what he thinks the US should be doing.

This bold brought to you by devil's advocate mode.

That said, I could see a rational argument for allowing the local government to prosecute him. The concept of double-jeapordy is a long-time staple in the service. Screw up, off-base, and you'll face military charges after the civilians get done with you. I could see an argument being made that an arena of active conflict calls for separate rules, but it'd have to be pretty convincing to justify more lenient treatment of a mass murderer in Afghanistan than a rapist gets in Japan or a DUI in California.
