But as lawrocket said, reasonable discussion was poisoned because Rush's comments give the other side an easy "go to" response when they start losing debate points. Here's another one: http://www.businessinsider.com/wisconsin-republican-says-women-are-paid-less-because-money-is-more-important-for-men-2012-4 QuoteWisconsin Governor Scott Walker opened up a new front in the GOP's war against women last week when he overturned his state's equal pay law, which made it easier for workers to sue their employers for wage discrimination. Walker, a rising star in the Republican party, has come under fire for his decision to repeal the law, which was passed largely to address Wisconsin's huge gap in male and female wages. Since the equal pay law was passed in 2009, the state has risen from 36th to 24th in national gender pay parity rankings.
SkyDekker 1,465 #171 April 12, 2012 QuoteI think it's great that you actually do understand the true Liberal position on the subject. It's a payout for votes. I don't think it is a payout for votes. I think it is an ill conceived solution to institutional racism or bias. Take the Toronto Fire Department for instance. In Toronto roughly 47% of the population identifies themselves as a visible minority. Toronto is extremely multicultural. Yet the far majority of fire fighters are white males. Actually it is quite unusual to see a fire fighter in toronto who is a visible minority, specially in more senior roles. Do I think that forcing them to hire a certain number of visible minorities is the answer? No. However I do think there should be a very thorough review of the TFD hiring practices. There is no doubt in my mind that the department suffers heavily from institutional racism and bias. Liberals at least are trying to solve the problem, ill conceived as it may be. Many conservatives refuse to see there might even be a problem. I find that much more unsettling.

davjohns 1 #173 April 12, 2012 I'm kind of divided on the birth control issue. 1. Health care covering voluntary activity like sex seems wrong. Then, I'm not sure I even agree with my own assessment that it's voluntary. Pretty much a need for me. Still...so is eating, and that's health related as well. Does my health care cover vitamins and other optional meds? Not sure. Then, there's the question of condoms. Does the health insurance cover that? Those prevent pregnancy AND disease that would subsequently be covered by health insurance. Seems the insurer would provide certain types of birth control that were in their best interest, at least. 2. Seems the health insurer would WANT to cover birth control to prevent the larger expense of birth, pediatrician costs, etc. Certainly they cover vasectomy and tubal ligation? And back to the question of condoms...I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
