muff528 3 #3 February 29, 2012 QuoteFirst Sarah, now this. Anyone who displays that "statue" at any high school full of adolescents and doesn't expect at least a giggle is either a little naive or a lot clueless. The real joke is the $100k spent on it. Also - a work of art "conveys" the message it conveys ...not necessarily the message intended to be conveyed by the artist. ETA - I think this sculpture conveys the message that someone is getting screwed out of a hundred grand.
Coreece 190 #4 February 29, 2012 Quote Some students think the stone and concrete sculpture that features a pair of shields surrounded by feathers resembles female genitalia. Quote “There was quite an outcry from parents who were hearing what kids were saying (about the sculpture). Given these two statements, I don't think it's unreasonable to conclude that the kids were making fun of it and all the parents over heard was "ya, the school put up a statue of a vagina." So now the parents call up and inquire/complain...probably without even seeing it. Good stuff, good stuff...Your secrets are the true reflection of who you really are... muff528 3 #11 March 1, 2012 Quote Some of the quotes are great. "People need to slow down . . . it needs to be experienced up close, personally." "People poking fun at it . . ." I like the name of the piece ..."Warrior Within". This must be a representation of the little tyke just before he was born. (Well, the scammers artists did say they had been working on it for 9 months ...and that this was their 10th trip to the $ well!)
masterrig 1 #12 March 1, 2012 I've always thought I had a 'wild' imagination but I just don't see it. To me, it looks like a piece of crap. A lot of what people call 'art', I just don't understand. I think this is just more of 'much ado about nothing'. The really bad part of it is the money spent on the 'sculpture'. The only one making-outon this deal is the one who made it. How could I ever forget the media?I'm not the 'artsy-fartsy' type but to me, if it isn't signed by Remington, Catlin or Russel... I'm afraid, Idon't understand it!
