lawrocket 3 #1 February 23, 2012 What if there was a major greenhouse gas cutting initiative and nobody complained? There is one. And nobody notices. http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/us-will-lead-new-effort-to-cut-global-warming-from-methane-soot/2012/02/15/gIQAoYtUGR_story.html Methane, black carbon and CFCs are also greenhouse gases. But they are also greenhouse gases that are relatively cheap to combat. Back in 04, I wrote that some real bang for the buck could be found in combating methane. I also stated my personal belief that methane wasn’t a priority, in part, because remediating methane wouldn’t bring about a massive social change that implicates an attack on petrochemical companies. I still believe that, only I also have become more cynical and come to the conclusion that the lack of expense that methane remediation would necessitate means there isn’t a big pot worth fighting for. What organization is going to lobby for a few million worldwide? There's no money in it. Which is why it's such a good policy. Actual lives can be saved by mitigation of black carbon, a one-two punch of greenhouse gas remediation AND remediation of lung disease hazard. Methane can be remediated significantly and maybe even collected for use. What took so long? Why take so damned long to do something that everyone can agree on? Is it BECAUSE everyone can agree on it and there’s no political hay to make? Yep. I think so. There are no real losers here. There are no villains. My wife is hotter than your wife.
