it appears they are using some sort of right wing set of "qualification standards" instead of just picking and choosing their students based on an artificially define mix of people based on shallow, cosmetic criteria.

Black and Latino applications plummeted after Prop 209 as (theorized) the best candidates simple chose to go elsewhere...the best minority students get very good financial aid packages at the elite Privates.

For Letters and Science, the primary college on campus, the first 50% of application slots are chosen purely by objective measures (grades, test scores). It's only after this that they try to read the social story in any way still permitted by 209 and other anti discrimination laws.

Still US company is ran by upper white class people, and even with the degree from Harvard, if you are not white you are not gonna advance very far in US corporation.

Asians may have degree but whites know the important group of people inside the company high up.

My friend once told me that he is not going to school for an education, instead he is going to school to get to know people, make friends get to know people in industry that you are studying for.

Just by having a degree won't get you a job, being friend with CEO's son will get you the job.

I gotta tell you - as individuals, they are pretty.....well....individualistic......... in motivations, career goals, background, etc. Heck, a couple of my coworkers even are good friends with a couple of our Executive VPs - but I guess the fact that they do very good work has nothing to do with them being in a position of responsibility (I won't tell you what gender, color, hair type they are - you can squirm about it - it doesn't matter here - except in HR)

It has nothing to do with Affirmative action, equal representation, or anything like that. I haven't looked into it yet, but I'm willing to bet it's about money.

The growing trend is to admit and sell diplomas to foreign students at full tuition to get paid (in some cases the students don't even have to show up for class).

The universities still have to make sure they have adequate money coming in while giving away educations, cars, hookers, and blow to the football teams and full ride grants to minorities. Also, let's not forget UC Berkeley also has to pay California taxes.

I saw a thing recently where part asian students were putting down the "other part" that they are. Apparently some schools are cutting back on asian admissions, and the way for them to get in or to stand out from the "rest" of the asians is if they claim to be white, black, hispanic or whatever other makeup they can claim besides asian even if it's a very very miniscule amount. perhaps all their family is asian ecept that one white dude that their great great grandma married or something. So they claim white on their admission form.
