OMG! There's a gun store in my town!

News:
A gun shop in Merchantville raises questions

"I was completely startled when I saw a sign saying 'firearms and ammunition,' " says DiSalvo, who has lived in the borough for 10 years and is the mother of two grown children. "I thought, 'Why is there a gun store here?'"

Firearms pervade our culture; they make some people feel secure and others afraid. Many people have no interest in owning (much less firing) one. And we'd rather not live near a commercial establishment that supplies folks who do...

Freedom is funny like that. Freedom does not include a guarantee that you will never be offended. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Because freedom means everyone is free to do things that you may not like, it pretty much guarantees that you WILL be offended. Learn to get used to it. Because the alternative, where things you don't like get banned, also means that things other people don't like get banned. And when everyone is banning everything, then there's no more freedom, including your own.

Well, there goes the neighborhood. Criminals will be moving in so they can be close to the gun store. It makes buying a gun easier for the criminals and the crime rate in this area will surely increase. Either that or the guns will sneak out of the store at night and commit crimes. This is why they call them "Gun Crimes".

Holy shit :o

Criminals *buying a gun legally*?? How that? :|

*.... or the guns will sneak out of the store at night ...*

Jeez. :S

You need a much better gun control (gun store control, if you prefer that).

Holy Crap.

You guys seem to be lost.

Or much more simple: It needs someone who's controlling your posts on DC.com ...... :P:P:P:P

You have obviously spent very little time in the U.S. We actually have automobiles that cause accidents, guns that kill people, and even parachutes that fail to open.

Funny, it seems like only yesterday that you were attacking Muslims for offending people with their mosque in Manhattan. Good to see that you have "seen the light" so to speak.

They say that the memory is the first thing to go, and yours is going, billvon. First of all, that discussion was over a year ago, not yesterday. Second, I never attacked muslims for their NYC mosque. The worst that I said was that it was bad public relations to do it next to ground zero. Just as it would be bad public relations for the NRA to build a shooting center next to Columbine High School. What this demonstrates is that you have planted something in your memory that never actually happened, because you have an innate bias against me and you want so badly to believe it. And now you're trying to use this fictional event against me, hoping that no one will notice that it's not true. That's a good one!

Notice the sneaky reference they make to fried chicken. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Did you notice the book that's being advertised right next to the article? "Fallen" by Karen Slaughter. Is this a subliminal suggestion? Are they trying to incite people to go on a killing spree so the gun store can be shut down?

You say that as if the search function does work.
http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results&search_forum=all&search_string=mosque&search_type=AND&search_fields=sb&search_time=&search_user_username=JohnRich+&sb=score&mh=100

You did start a thread about it.
http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3932284;search_string=mosque;#3932284

And you did say this:
Quote

If he would simply change the location of his mosque to a place that doesn't offend New Yorkers, and change the name of the program to build it to one that doesn't have "Christian conquest" meaning associated with it, then there wouldn't be any further objections, and he could get on with his project.

Change the words to say "gun store" and there you have it. Same damn thing.

In that spirit, let me quote you again from your first post in this thread:

Do you really believe ad servers work by having humans read articles rather than simply searching for keywords that automatically place them?

perhaps the ad is intended to get people to buy more guns for self defense

Possibly, but my point is it was 99.999% put there for commercial reasons by a piece of programming rather than with some sort of political intent by a human.

The bars on the windows and doors? Not to keep people out at night...it's to keep the guns in.

Oh lookie, a bunch of posts where JohnRich used the word "mosque". Oh my! The only problem with your list, quade, is that none of them shows any example of me attacking muslims, as billvon asserts. Simply talking about a controversy, is not an attack upon the group at the source of the controversy. If this is all the "proof" you can come up with, you've failed. And when you two guys have to make up fictional stuff, and imply evil intent from a simple list, then you've really failed big time. Your score: F

Right, because we all know you had no motivation for creating the thread that had anything to do with your personal views on the subject. Riiiight.

Yep. It only seems that way.

>Second, I never attacked muslims for their NYC mosque.

JR: "So they're not sensitive to the feelings of New Yorkers about the location. And they're not sensitive to the feelings of Americans about the connotations of the name "Cordoba". It doesn't sound like they're trying real hard to get along peacefully."

So let's rephrase that in the context of this thread:

Gun nuts aren't sensitive to the feelings of Americans about the location of their gun stores. And they're not sensitive to the imagined dangers such stores pose. It doesn't sound like they're trying real hard to get along peacefully with Americans.

And to use your own conclusion to that post:

I think I smell a double standard.

Oh boy, a greenie moderator tag team!

Believe it or not, just because I post news stories about controversial things to start a discussion, does not mean that I automatically take the side of whatever slant is contained in the news story which I quote.

Put down your shovel!

And to billvon: If that's the best quote that you can find from me showing what you alleged to be an "attack" by me against muslims, then I want to thank you for disproving your own assertion.

I'm reminded of the Marines isolated on Wake Island at the outbreak of WWII and under heavy attack by Japanese forces superior in number. The garbled radio message that was received by Americans from Wake Island came through as "Send... more... Japs..."

Send... more... moderators...

You'll have to take that up with JohnRich. Looks like you two disagree.

That's fine, of course. You can demand that Muslims respect the feelings of Americans at the same time that you're aghast that someone might demand that gun stores respect the feelings of Americans. You do the double standard thing quite well.
