I've been playing ice hockey since I was 5 years old. In that time it took 4 trips to the hospital for stitches to my face before I finally came to my senses and started wearing a mask (luckily and surprisingly I am still sporting all of my teeth). It's a good thing too that I started wearing a mask as a few years back while battling in front of the net I was knocked down and took the goalie's skate right square in the face. Of course since I was wearing a mask nothing much came of it, I got up and carried on. But I would hate to think what sort of damage that goalie's skate would have done to an unprotected face. Can you say Frankenstein?

BTW ... good on Mr Kerry for playing hockey. However he should reconsider how he is protecting himself. At an NHL game there are doctors and dentists on call at the arena waiting to put their skills to use should the need arise. For the rest of us mortals, a doctor or dentist could be hours if not days away from tending to our injuries.
