GeorgiaDon 385 #4 December 30, 2011 Seems like a nice dodge to get the taxpayer to pay for a substantial chunk of CEO compensation. Can anyone remind me why it's bad for unemployed people to collect unemployment insurance, but it's just dandy for private corporations to use tax writeoffs to pay their executives? nanook 1 #5 December 30, 2011 Neither. We can do this too. What the link is putting a spin on is something that is called a "carryover" by the company. Since the stocks were a serious loss, they sold them to the CEO's at a set price over a period, which is the same as a trade (sell) in which a loss is realized. Then the company is able to spread the total loss as a carryover till the loss total has been expended. Nothing here is a secret. In fact many companies are able to use their carryover from losses these past several years to lower their tax liability. This is just as common in the private sector._____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

normiss 906 #8 December 31, 2011 Agreed. Rare that people in THIS forum actually read the details and understand the issue. There are some that are decrying this as yet another way for corporation to dodge paying federal taxes. The devil is in the details.
