Pandering to the fundamentalists.

Newt wants to defund Planned Parenthood, and protect the states from killing granny. Really?:S

My son is in 8th grade public school. They learn about all the religions of the world and how they started and were spread. It's called World History.

Homeschooled kids here in California have access to all sorts of taxpayer funded after school activities.

Newt wants "Change" on day one...:P

Protecting the rights of teachers to discuss religion openly and objectively in the classroom might prove to be a double edged sword. Any witchcraft practicing teachers out there?

When fundamentalist of any religion say they want to protect the right to discuss religions, what they generally mean is protect the right to discuss their religion and usually at the detriment of others.

I have no issue with a comparitive religious study class.
I do have a serious issue if that means preaching or only comparing the religions in a bad light compared to the "one true religion" in a public school.

Want your kids to be taught according to your religion? Then put them in a parochial school.

Clearly that's a threat to Christianity. Objective secular science, math and history are just tools used by evil secular humanists to attack good conservatives. From the front page of Conservapedia:

Making 2012 the worst year in the history of Darwinism

A supporter of the Question evolution! campaign writes: "Feeble goal setting is fitting for passive and apathetic evolutionists, but not for Bible believing Christians. In 2012, our group desires to soar like eagles and make evolutionary dogma our prey."

. . .

The new year is rapidly approaching. Accordingly, it is time for our Question evolution! campaign to chart out our group's vision for 2012. Simply put, we want to help make 2012 the worst year in the history of Darwinism. More specifically, in the Western World we want to help make 2012 a pivotal year as far as the expansion of creation evangelism. Our goal is to increase percentage of the Western World population which holds to a biblical creation worldview which should aid Christian evangelism.

I agree with this completely. And also note that one sided fundamentalism isn't just restricted to religious nuts, there are equivalent nuts in a lot of areas that deserve a similar approach.

as for the lead post - go ahead and defund PP. they should be able to run as a private org. We should defund a lot of this stuff. It's not the government's business - gov should enforce the law and stay out of paying for the choices of individuals at the expense of the rest of us. Keep abortion legal - pay for it yourself.

1. Nominate conservative judges who are committed to upholding Constitutional limited government and understand that the role of the judges is to interpret the law, not legislate from the bench.[Blue] if 'conservative' means exactly the rest of the quote, then ABSOLUTELY. If he means socially conservative activitst judges, then that whole position is a contradiction [/Blue]

2. Combat judicial activism by utilizing checks on judicial power Constitutionally available to the elected branches of government [Blue] This seems consistent with #1, out of control judges of all political leanings is a real problem- no issue here [/Blue]

3. End taxpayer subsidies for abortion by repealing Obamacare, defunding Planned Parenthood, and reinstating the “Mexico City Policy” which banned funding to organizations that promote and/or perform abortions overseas.[Blue] I'm all for end PP subsidies, but, I'm all for ending a LOT of subsidies as the goal - not just focusing on a single social issue. What I think sucks here, is he is explicitly targeting abortions. I'd be happier if he generally targeted "all social subsidies". Newts crossing over into fundy pandering. [/Blue]

4. Protect religious expression in the public square such as crosses, crèches and menorahs.[Blue] no issue here, I'm not a big fan, but as long as it's applied without bias to any religion(including atheists, and apathetics.. :D) [/Blue]

5. Protect healthcare workers right to conscience by making sure they are not forced to participate in or refer procedures such as abortion. [Blue] none of the government's business - it should be solely between the worker and their management. [/Blue]

6. Protect the rights of home-schooled children by ensuring they have the same access to taxpayer funded, extra-curricular educational opportunities as any public school student. [Blue] Yes, but perhaps the same access should mean less public funding, rather than more subsidy funding to home school. This would be easy to fix with vouchers, then all the CHILDREN would get the same benefit regardless of where they go. [/Blue]

7. Protect the rights of teachers to use historical examples involving religion in their classroom. Nor should they be discouraged from answering questions about religion or discussing it objectively in the classroom. [Blue]nice concept - but I suspect it's impossible to make it unbiased - you'll get the pro-religion nuts and the anti-religion nuts pretty much ruining it. I can't see how this would be applied objectively [/Blue]

8. Protect the frail, infirm and the elderly from the state’s arbitrary decision to terminate life. [Blue] not sure what he's trying to imply - I assume it has to do with Obama care and working to cancel that crappy program.[/Blue]

I'm not a fan of this guy - and I'm sick of the back and forth of the two opposing social cultures fighting for political leadership and then jerking us all around as they trade positions. Clearly Newt is just the same as Obama and Bush and the others.
