billvon 3,120 #30 December 28, 2011 >Reagan wasn't that Conservative. From Conservapedia: =========== Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 - June 5, 2004), served as the 40th President of the United States of America from 1981 to 1989. He was the 33rd Governor of California (1967–1975), following a successful career in film and television. He has been widely recognized as one of the greatest American Presidents and the main inspiration for the conservative movement from the 1970s to the present. =========== You are correct in that to a modern conservative Reagan doesn't seem very conservative. But that's not because Reagan has become more liberal as time goes on; it is because the GOP has become ever more extreme as time goes on.

lawrocket 3 #32 December 28, 2011 Quote The man was nowhere near as great as his myth About what great man can this not be said? It can be said about Reagan. About Clinton. About Washington. About Jefferson. About Lincoln. This is because Reagan was a man. A human being with all the flaws, foibles and other things that go into being a human being. What was Reagan? He was the “Great Communicator.” He was also the Great Unifier. He was the Great Dealmaker. The Great Compromiser and a man for which labels, in many cases, just do not work. For example, Reagan was the warmonger! The hawk increasing military spending and provoking nuclear war with the Soviets. Yet, he and Gorbachev negotiated the greatest arms reduction treaty in the history of the world (the INF – 1987). The warmonger became the greatest peacemaker the world (along with Gorbachev). Reagan was polarizing! Yet he brokered the 1986 Tax Reform Act with a Democratic Congress. Regan was family values! Yet he was divorced and daughter Patti Davis was a really interesting gal. This is the problem when people are held up the way they are. The problem, though, works both ways. Remember in 08 when Senator Obama was on the campaign trail and had some good things to say about Reagan? Edwards, Hillary and others from the left tore him a new one for that. This is a two sided issue. Much like the adulation heaped upon Clinton during the 2008 Democratic National Convention was nothing more than spin. The derision of Bush was similarly manufactured and spun. Because politics isn’t about reality. My wife is hotter than your wife.
