I am willing to bet that is Pakistans thought exactly, "friends"?

The Pakistani government has never really be a friend of the USA. Not much of an ally either. Let's be honest: the Taliban was never anything more than a wing of the Pakistani government running their backwoods neighbor. We pay them billions and they shelter the folks attacking US troops.

What a pile of utter horseshit! The Taliban and Al Queda have killed more Pakistani's than every western national victim combined. The government in Pakistan doesn't play straight up with the west because it constantly is juggling just to survive.

To be friends with the US of A one really, really needs a gigantic sense of humour to cope with things like this:

It authorizes the President to use “all means necessary and appropriate to bring about the release of any US or allied personnel being detained or imprisoned by, on behalf of, or at the request of the International Criminal Court”. This has led to the nickname The Hague Invasion Act,[1][2] since such freeing of US citizens by force might only be possible through an invasion of The Hague, Netherlands, the seat of several international criminal courts and the seat of the Dutch government.

:D:D:D

And since Pakistanis usually have a sense of quran instead of a sense of humour, they totally hate you. Don't mind it too much, it doesn't get much more retarded than Pakistan as far as this planet goes.

A country that has nuclear weapons isn't "constantly juggling just to survive".

He is talking about internal threats, not external ones. Unless you are suggesting that it is OK to nuke political adversaries.....

Right... because the government of Pakistan is on such sound footings.

As it is the Military runs the country, not the civil government. But they are all on unstable ground with their own populous.

Outside of the major cities there are huge parts of Pakistan that are not under anything that could be considered centralized government control!

>Russia still exists and isn't anywhere near extinction.

And isn't the USSR. That's extinct.

>Oh and don't give me the Russia =/= USSR speech. Russia = the USSR
> minus some minor provinces

Which is like saying the British Colonies are just like the USA, just minus a few states. After all, same people and same land.

Marinus has a tendency to project how he wants things to be over how they actually are. Pakistan is by far the most unstable nuclear power. There isn't any unity top to bottom or across agencies.

The population doesn't control the government, the government doesn't control the military, and the military doesn't control the entirety of their land. Talking about Pakistan as a single entity is impractical. Really you need to address which faction or figure you're talking about. Does anyone think it's impossible that the outpost was involved in or aware and accepting of the attack on NATO forces? (regardless of what the orders and instructions coming from the capital)

you know Kennedy, theres a lot of things that you know about and at times you can be quite informative, but when it comes to the issue of Pakistan's input on the 'war on terror' you are totally misinformed and uninformed.

Exactly, ten times more Pakistanis have died in the last ten years in Karachi alone than were killed in 9/11. Pakistan is in a state of near civil war with the Taliban. The USA can't seal its own boarder with Mexico yet expect Pakistan to do so along a boarder far longer through mountains in a desert along Afghanistan with a fraction of the resources. On top of which the USA keeps undermining the Pakistani government by slamming Hellfire missiles in to suspected targets causing many civilian deaths.

You say that but I remember in the 80's Pakistanis loved America, even in the shanty slums of Karachi the Stars and Stripes often flew along side the Pakistani flag. They were very enamoured by the USA after the sale to Pakistan of F16's. Pakistan and the USA have had a long and close relationship for decades against India's cosying up to the Soviets.

Maybe you're not old enough to remember but the USSR collapsed quite spectacularly. Russia is only one country the USSR was a union by definition.
