I bet we can also blame climate change as well for restricting species from getting bigger or smaller.

Interestingly enough, weather also makes trees grow faster and slower; that might result in their being bigger and smaller as well.

How big are the trees at altitude, and where it's dry?

Climate is weather patterns over a long scale and a long time.
