I just read Margaret Truman's biography of her mother. I must say, her description of the political situation late 40's and early 50's sounds a whole lot like today. Gridlock, people more interested in defeating someone than in doing the right thing.

We seem to have survived that. Maybe, just maybe, we'll make it through this period, too.

I agree, and believe we will make it thru this phase of history. From what I've read by people that have lived in both though - the polarization has never been even close to this bad.

Unfortunately, our behavior as a society appears to have all the characteristics of addiction - and it's hard to say how far it is yet to the bottom (before we snap out of it and start the recovery).
