Occupy Wall Street protesters said yesterday that packs of brazen crooks within their ranks have been robbing their fellow demonstrators blind, making off with pricey cameras, phones and laptops -- and even a hefty bundle of donated cash and food.

“Stealing is our biggest problem at the moment,” said Nan Terrie, 18, a kitchen and legal-team volunteer from Fort Lauderdale.

“I had my Mac stolen -- that was like $5,500. Every night, something else is gone. Last night, our entire [kitchen] budget for the day was stolen, so the first thing I had to do was . . . get the message out to our supporters that we needed food!”

Looks like the folks in favor of redistributing things don't like it when it's *their* things being redistributed.

Actually, as I think about it they aren't stealing it. They are purists who are trying to help everyone purge themselves of the slavery tools of corporate America. Computers. Cell phones. Music devices. Backpacks. Purses? All products of the corporate system they abhor!

The freedom fighters should be applauded for their dedication to anti-corporate sentiment.

I once had a wallet stolen at Skydive Arizona. I bet lefties were responsible.

Or it could be that regular street criminals saw an opportunity and took it.

well, the Dems do want felons that are in prison to vote

if we falter and lose our freedoms,
it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

I refer you back to the "brazen crooks within their ranks" from the quoted article.

That sucks.

Ideologically there is little difference between the two. The thief may have been a poor person who realized you were a fat cat who had more money than you "needed." Stealing from the rich may sound noble to some, but it is still stealing. And the institutionalization of stealing still can't justify it. I say you were a victim of "social justice," which has nothing to do with justice as I know it.

Sounds like you are a member of the "all taxes are stealing" fraternity.

Sounds like you have an emotional need to mischaracterize the beliefs of others so you can dismiss them in a manner that precludes the need for rationale on your part. Actually I haven't found an ideological fraternity worth joining but merely recognize hypocrisy where it exists.

BTW, it's not necessary to use quotation marks when quoting yourself, nor can that disguise your attempt to redefine my beliefs. If I thought that all taxes are stealing, I would have said that myself and wouldn't need you to speak on my behalf.

I have ascertained that you, sir, are a Tenured Professor at a private University--easily a six-figure salary. You are better off than 90% of Americans.

If you really want to pay what you believe is "your Fair share," please leave my tax rates alone, and send a fat check to the following address:

United States Treasury
1500 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest
Washington D.C., DC 20220-0001

I'm sure they'll cash it with a smile.

Crime in NYC!!! WTF!!! This is huge news.

What evidence was there that their fellow protesters were responsible?

Here's the problem: the easiest way for the thief to be unnoticed is to blend in. Perhaps there are burglarizing hordes who have shown up to perform their acts of wealth redistribution and have no interest in the issues at hand (doubtful - they'll take money anywhere they can get it).

So the thieves have become part of the ranks. They have joined the ranks. Or, perhaps the ranks include thieves who see opportunities and take them. One way or another, the crowd is meeting the expectations of what the Tea Partiers claim it is.

Why don't you define what you mean by "institutionalization of stealing " for us, then you won't be misunderstood.

That is the kind of idiotic logic that got us into this mess in the first place.

Those "expectations" were met long before this story ever surfaced. Perhaps your saying that every group has it's fringe, like when some in the TP were waving their racist signs and voicing their support for the murder of President Obama.

Yep. And those people were being asked to leave, if I recall.

Every group has its fringe and indeed its criminal elements. the Tea Partiers (like the assholes holding racist signs). The anti-Tea Partiers (the assholes who immediately blamed the "Tea Party" and "Sarah Palin" for the shooting of Gabriel Giffords despite an absolute paucity of any evidence other than their subjective feelings and hopes that it was a Tea Partier). The republicans. The Democrats. All have their fringe.

And the Occupiers have their fringe. For example, it takes a special sort of blissful ignorance and self-aggrandizement to suggest that the few thousand people nationwide represent 99 out of 100 of the rest of the population. No you don't. You represent yourselves. That's all.

What we are also seeing with the Occupiers is that they may be getting their very first instruction on the realities of life. I can admit to being stunned at the resources they had available. The gal reported that she lost a $5,500 Apple computer. I mean, huh? $5,500 for what is in high probability a personal computer?

That takes resources. Big resources. Perhaps there has been some degree of sheltering. The people you trust can screw you the most. I take it that the thief who stole her computer probably caused her as much - if not more - pain than did a bank.

To their credit, many of them are doing something spectacular - looking within themselves. This is something that I can respect and admire. They aren't just looking at it in some paranoid way.

I think it's refreshing.
