And actually may die tomorrow for lack of food or water????
Apple is overrated. (I have three Macs and two iPads.) But it is a luxury for those who do not need to worry daily about sustenance.
QuoteIf you think the middle class suffered while he made billions, try to imagine what being middle class today would be like if Steve and others like him were, like you, content to just collect a paycheck and didn't pursue their dreams and ideas.
Sure he made billions. But what he made is peanuts compared to the overall contributions he made to society.

So, what's the benefit of an ipad2 to those 3 billion people on earth who are trying to survive on less than $2/ day???

So you blame Steve Jobs for the situation those people are in?
40 years ago we laughed at the thought of a small handheld device that enabled people to communicate thousands of miles apart. Today, we not only have such a device, we laugh at the crude simplicity of those we saw in Star Trek.
Tens of thousands of lives have been saved by people having access to cell phones, home computers, internet access, and other personel electronics.
Sure, iPhones and iPads, etc. are not made in the USA. But they ARE made somewhere and those people have jobs that would not exist but for people like Steve Jobs. Or maybe enhancing the lives of people in other countries doesn't count?
Even though the devices are produced elsewhere, there are still tens of thousands of jobs created for people selling these devices and servicing them. Add to that the enormous amount of accessories available for them.
Let's talk taxes. Try to imagine the local and state sales tax revenue generated by the sale of the devices Steve and his peers created. Steve's lifetime income would be a drop in the bucket compared to that.

To all unemployed Texans who have marketable job skills (especially in the oil patch) look to Alberta Canada if you are having trouble finding work in your state. In Alberta you will find many things similar to Texas. Of course it is not 100% the same. Substitute TX's insanely hot summers and instead insert Alberta's incredibly cold winters (does it really matter, insanely hot is just as insane as our cold, they are both insane). Substitute TX's insane attitude towards football and instead insert Alberta's love of hockey (we also like and support football too, but are no where near as talented and could use some good coaching on how to become better). Finally substitute the dislike many (not all) Americans have towards Texas with the dislike many (not all) Canadians have with Alberta and Texans who have marketable job skills will find a new friendly home with their northern cousin. However I should warn you, we are not perfect. We like people who take responsibility for their own actions. People looking to sponge off the government do need to apply elsewhere. I should know. I grew up in a part of the world where sponging off the government was the norm and the good people of Alberta taught me that hard work (while not perfect) does pay dividends. Maybe if more people worked as hard as the Germans, worked as hard as hard as Albertans then they would not feel the need to feel like victims of the world. Whoever told you life would be easy, was clearly lying to you.
Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

QuoteI think you underestimate how much money gets pumped into a college due to sports. That money drives enrollment, which helps drive programs, which helps drive research...it can be a significant contribution.
If that translates into better education, then great. If it does not, then what is the point....?
QuoteLook at Germany: .... Also does not involve itself in foreign wars....
You're fucking joking RIGHT?
It is probably because of the 2nd world war ... that Germany is as strong as it is and The U.K now is so weak .... no body rebuilt OUR industrial base after we lost it helping to save Europe... remind me ... who won the war?

If you can afford three Macs and two iPads (not to mention jumping out of airplanes for fun), you are fabulously wealthy compared to those trying to survive on less than $2/day. So why don't you enlighten us about what YOU are doing to create jobs for those 3 billion people. For that matter, why don't you let us know about the devices you developed that employ thousands, or the medical breakthroughs you personally developed that save thousands of lives a year, or the new crops you developed that feed millions who otherwise would have starved, or whatever the hell it is that you do that makes you entitled to point fingers at people like Jobs.QuoteSo, what's the benefit of an ipad2 to those 3 billion people on earth who are trying to survive on less than $2/ day???
